In a spectacular display of skill and strategy, the No. 18 Florida State Seminoles softball team swept a doubleheader against Alabama State, showcasing their strength with two run-rule victories at the Seminole Softball Complex.
๐ Commanding Performance Sets the Tone:
The Seminoles set the pace early in the first game, overcoming initial challenges to take a strong lead.
Mimi Gooden's pitching prowess was on full display as she skillfully managed the early innings, supported by Isa Torres and Amaya Ross, who drove in runs with a double and a triple, respectively, to secure a quick 3-0 lead in the first inning.
๐ฅ Beachum Blasts and Torres Triumph:
The offensive momentum continued with Jaysoni Beachum delivering a two-run homer, her prowess at the plate becoming a recurring theme of the day.
Torres added to the spectacle with a deep home run, contributing significantly to the Seminoles' lead, which was further bolstered by strategic hits from the rest of the lineup.
๐ฅ Pitching Precision:
Gooden claimed the win with a strong four-inning outing, striking out five and keeping runs to a minimum.
Allison Royalty made a noteworthy return from injury, pitching the final two innings and holding the Hornets to just one run, demonstrating depth in FSU's pitching staff.
๐ Game Two: Continued Dominance:
The second game saw no drop in intensity from FSU. Beachum opened with her second home run of the day, marking a historic achievement as she joined an elite group of FSU freshmen with double-digit home runs in their debut season.
The Seminoles capitalized on errors by Alabama State to extend their lead, with pivotal plays from Annie Potter and Ashtyn Danley driving in runs.
๐ก Stellar Relief Pitching:
Madi Balk started the second game, impressing in her brief but effective appearance with no hits allowed and two strikeouts.
Emma Wilson took over, delivering 4.1 scoreless innings, showcasing FSU's formidable bullpen as they shut down the Hornets' offense.
๐ฅ Onward to Boston College:
Riding a seven-game winning streak, the Seminoles look forward to their next challenge against Boston College.
With the first game scheduled for Friday, April 19th, FSU aims to carry their formidable form into the upcoming series, signaling their readiness for more competitive action.

Florida State basketball has made a significant addition to their roster, signing high-performing guard Daquan Davis to a National Letter of Intent.
The Baltimore, Maryland native is set to bring his impressive skills to the Seminoles for the 2024-25 season.
๐ Rising Star on the Court:
Davis, standing at 6-1 and weighing 165 pounds, has shown his prowess on the basketball court with a recent average of 17.9 points, 6.1 rebounds, 5.8 assists, and 1.7 steals per game while playing for the YNG Dreamers in the Overtime Elite Basketball league during the 2023-24 season.
๐ฅ Proven Track Record:
Previously, as a junior at St. Johnโs College High School in Washington, D.C., Davis was named Player of the Year by MaxPreps.
He led the Cadets to a stellar 30-3 record and a Washington Catholic Athletic Conference tournament title, boasting a personal average of 16.2 points per game.
๐ฅ A Strategic Playmaker:
Head Coach Leonard Hamilton praised Davisโs high basketball IQ, toughness, and versatility. Hamilton highlighted Davisโs ability to involve his teammates as a key trait, noting his nearly six assists per game as evidence of his team-focused playstyle.
His vision and passing skills are expected to make him a valuable asset to the Seminolesโ lineup.
๐ A Personal Connection:
Davis chose Florida State over other top contenders like Providence and Georgia Tech, citing a strong connection with the coaching staff, particularly Coach Nickelberry, who shares a similar background.
This personal link and the team's family-like environment were decisive factors in his commitment.
