🏹 Welcome to The Chief Brief! 🏹

🌞 Happy Monday, Seminole! 🌞

It was a packed weekend across the board for the Noles — some tough results on the diamond and the course, but plenty still to play for with postseason action heating up. 🔥

  • Baseball took a tough series loss at Louisville and now gears up for a huge set vs. Clemson.

  • Softball remains atop the ACC standings with the Regular Season title in sight.

  • Men’s Golf battled to the ACC semifinals and now preps to host the NCAA Regional.

  • Football locked in the spring roster numbers — and more Portal moves could still be coming.

  • Plus, a batch of Noles are heading to the NFL as undrafted free agents! 🚀

Let’s dive in. 👇

⚾️ Louisville Wrecks the Pen — and the Weekend ⚾️

For the second straight game, Florida State's bullpen absolutely fell apart — and the bats went silent after a nice start. The ‘Noles got run-ruled 14-2 on Sunday, handing No. 19 Louisville the series win over No. 4 FSU.

  • Wes Mendes had a nightmare start: walk, bomb, bomb, walk, bomb. Down 5-0 before some fans even found their seats.

  • Mendes settled in a little afterward, but the bullpen (again) couldn’t stop the bleeding:

    • Peyton Prescott gave up 4 runs.

    • John Abraham didn’t record an out and gave up a walk-off grand slam (!).

Meanwhile, FSU’s offense was M.I.A. after the first inning — grounding into three double plays and scratching out just two hits after Louisville’s bullpen entered. Over the last two games? FSU’s pen gave up 14 earned runs in 4 2/3 innings. Louisville’s? ZERO earned runs in 9 1/3 innings. 😬

Bright spot: Alex Lodise is still That Dude. He had 7 hits this weekend and drove in both of FSU’s runs Sunday. Keep polishing that ACC/National Player of the Year resume.

Next up: #2 Clemson comes to town Friday at Dick Howser — and the Tigers just got swept by NC State. Opportunity? 🍢

🥎 Softball Falls at Louisville, Sets Up Huge Series vs. VT 🥎

Final: No. 7 Florida State drops a tough one, 2-0 at Louisville Sunday night.

How It Happened:

  • Louisville cashed in early: a sun-lost fly ball set up a squeeze bunt for the Cards’ first run.

  • They added another unearned run in the fourth to make it 2-0.

  • FSU had a golden chance in the second inning — runners on first and second with no outs — but couldn’t cash in.

Pitching Highlights:

  • Makenna Reid: 2 innings, 1 hit, 1 run, 2 Ks.

  • Ashtyn Danley: 4 innings, 2 hits, 0 earned runs, 5 Ks — dealt out of the pen. 🔥

Big Picture:

  • Despite the loss, the Noles still lead the ACC standings.

  • One win next weekend at No. 14 Virginia Tech would lock up FSU’s 15th ACC Regular Season Championship and the No. 1 seed in the ACC Tournament (May 7–10).

Next up:

  • Game 1 at Virginia Tech — Friday, 6 p.m.

🏌️‍♂️ Noles Fall Short in ACC Semis, NCAA Regional Up Next 🏌️‍♂️

Final: No. 10 Florida State fell to No. 8 North Carolina 3-1 in the ACC Championship semifinal at Olde Stone Club on Sunday.

How It Happened:

  • Patrick McCann made the most of his first tournament action, winning both of his matches — 2&1 vs. Cal and 4&2 vs. UNC. 💪

  • Against UNC, the deciding third point came down to a playoff after Luke Clanton stormed back with three straight hole wins. Clanton fell after the 19th hole was conceded.

  • Gray Albright battled the nation’s top-ranked player but dropped his match 2&1.

Earlier in the Day:

  • FSU knocked off sixth-seeded California 3-1 in the quarters:

    • Wins from McCann, Tyler Weaver, and Luke Clanton locked it up.

What’s Next:

  • NCAA Tallahassee Regional at Seminole Legacy, May 12–14. 🎯

  • Home course advantage incoming!

📋️ Roster Check: Noles Hit 101 Players After Portal Madness 📋️

Florida State officially exits the spring Transfer Portal window with 101 players projected for the 2025 roster — 88 already enrolled.

Why It Matters:

  • The NCAA is proposing a 105-player cap for FBS squads as part of the House settlement.

  • FSU sits just under the line, with four spots still open. 🎯

Latest Moves:

  • Additions: DB Jaylen King and DB Jeremiah Wilson

  • Departures: TE Markeston Douglas, LB Timir Hickman-Collins

Where Things Stand:

  • QB Room: 6 deep with Castellanos, Glenn leading. (New face: Jaylen King*)

  • RB Room: 8 loaded, with new burners like Roydell Williams + Jaylin Lucas.

  • WR Room: 11 strong after adding Squirrel White but losing Hykeem Williams.

  • TE Room: 5 tight ends ready to rock post-Douglas exit.

  • OL Stack: 17 big bodies, no problem.

  • EDGE/IDL: 17 total trench warriors.

  • Linebackers: 11, and trending young.

  • DB Room: Absolutely loaded19 defensive backs on deck.

  • Specialists: 7 (including 3 LS, so you know the battles will be spicy).

👀 Portal Still Open for Business:

  • FSU still shopping for final pieces — expect some movement soon.

🏈 Where FSU's Undrafted Players Are Landing 🏈

The 2025 NFL Draft wrapped — and several Seminoles who didn’t hear their name called are finding new NFL homes as undrafted free agents:

  • QB DJ Uiagalelei ➡️ Los Angeles Chargers — The California native heads back home after a college career that spanned Clemson, Oregon State, and FSU.

  • WR Ja'Khi Douglas ➡️ New York Giants (mini-camp invite) — The versatile veteran gets a shot up north after contributing across five seasons in Tallahassee.

  • OL Jeremiah Byers ➡️ Arizona Cardinals — The right tackle, who started 22 games for FSU after transferring from UTEP, finds a new home in the desert.

  • OL Maurice Smith ➡️ Washington Commanders (mini-camp invite) — One of FSU’s most reliable centers ever (52 career starts) looks to earn a spot in D.C.

  • LB Cam Riley ➡️ New England Patriots — After leading the 'Noles in tackles for stretches last season, Riley heads to Foxborough.

  • CB Fentrell Cypress II ➡️ Washington Commanders — Despite a late-season injury, the veteran corner who started 23 straight games lands in Washington.

  • DB Kevin Knowles II ➡️ Kansas City Chiefs — The steady nickelback who logged 50 career games joins the reigning champs.

  • K Ryan Fitzgerald ➡️ Carolina Panthers — Fresh off a perfect field goal season and All-American honors, Fitzgerald gets his NFL shot.

And that’s a wrap!

🍢 A lot happened this weekend — and a lot more is coming.

Baseball's got a massive series on deck. Softball’s one win away from another regular season crown. Men’s Golf is getting ready to defend home turf at NCAA Regionals. And the football roster is nearly locked in heading into summer — but there’s still room for a few fireworks.

As always, stay plugged in here — we’ll have everything you need to know, every step of the way.

Go Noles. 🔥🍢 🏹
