FSU holds its first scrimmage of fall camp Tuesday night inside Doak Campbell Stadium, a significant early checkpoint for a roster with more than 60 new players and six new assistant coaches.
🏙️ Why the Stadium Setting Matters
Norvell scheduled both scrimmages for a 7 p.m. start specifically to replicate the body clocks players will need for night kickoffs against New Mexico State and SMU. Quarterbacks coach Austin Tucker called the setting itself invaluable: "Going from a practice field to a game field is different."

Running backs coach Kam Martin said the scrimmage will start deciding his rotation in real time: "I feel like it's going to decide tomorrow. Sophomore running back Ousmane Kromah, who dominated pass-protection reps against linebackers a year ago, got beaten decisively by Jones in a one-on-one drill last week and said the experience is sharpening his game: "That's helping me because it's helping me think while I'm doing certain movements." Running backs coach Kam Martin echoed the praise unprompted: "Chris Jones is a dawg... he's making us better as a running back group."
🗣️ 'This Florida State Is Different'
Safety Ma'Khi Jones, a Duke transfer who won an ACC title last season, said the competitive level in camp has him convinced this team is built differently than the last two: "I feel like Ashton said in his old interview that this Florida State is different. This Florida State is different."
Why It Matters: Jones' 134 tackles at Southern Miss got him to Tallahassee, but the way he's already elevating the level of competition around him, on both sides of the ball, may end up being his biggest impact on this team. 🍢

🎯 The Coach's Read
Quarterbacks coach Austin Tucker said Daniels has built on the decisiveness that stood out on Day 1: "I've seen growth in Ashton's game even from practice one to two, finishing up today in practice five." Tucker credited Daniels' early arrival in January for the head start on chemistry with FSU's receivers.
💰 The Stakes Behind the Praise
FSU pinched pennies in the portal this offseason, betting on Daniels as a value pickup rather than overspending on a bigger name, a strategy that let the Seminoles also retain Ja'Bril Rawls, Duce Robinson, and the Desir twins. If Daniels plays up to the hype, it validates that approach heading into 2027 as well.
Why It Matters: Camp praise is easy to discount, but the consistency of it, from his QB coach to defensive teammates like Ma'Khi Jones, is at least a better sign than silence. Tuesday's scrimmage will be the first real test of whether it translates. 🍢

Kevin Little also landed on the defensive line, noting the room has talent but nothing proven yet: "There is nothing that screams production."

Duce Robinson was named to the Maxwell Award watch list Monday, the latest in a growing string of preseason recognition for FSU's star receiver.
📜 A Growing Resume
Robinson has now collected three separate preseason honors since July 20: a Good Works Team nomination, Preseason All-ACC recognition, and now a watch list nod for the award given annually to the nation's outstanding player since 1937.

🔄 A Retooled Roster
Head coach Brian Pensky is working in 16 newcomers, including several experienced transfers, after heavy roster turnover from the title team. "It's all an evolution," Pensky said. "Everybody has to remain calm, patient, and keep plugging away."

Tyler Weaver, Wilmer Edero, Jack Whaley, and Andrew McLauchlan were all recognized as Cobalt Golf All-America Scholars, with Weaver posting the fifth-best single-season scoring average (69.58) in program history.
