FSU held its first scrimmage of fall camp Tuesday night inside Doak Campbell Stadium, the first live look at the 2026 roster for most of a team that turned over more than 60 players this offseason.
🎯 Offense: Command and Confidence
Norvell said Ashton Daniels showed real command running through roughly 70-80 plays across extended drives, praising his command, control, and where to go with the football, plus some nice throws on third down. Kevin Sperry hit a big vertical shot to Jasen Lopez, and Micahi Danzy scored a touchdown that Norvell pointed to as proof of his growth as a route runner.
🛡️ Defense: Speed and Physicality
Norvell praised the defense's ability to swarm and stop the run, singling out Ashlynd Barker's fit at rover, the linebacker room led by Chris Jones, and continued growth from the Desir twins up front.

JUCO transfer Malachi Marshall missed the scrimmage with what Norvell called a slight injury, with Dean DeNobile working in his place. Norvell said a few other players were banged up during the night and expects more clarity on their status in the coming days.

FSU didn't crack the top 25 itself but did receive 13 voting points, good for roughly No. 40 nationally in an extended poll. One columnist argued that's still too generous given FSU's 7-17 record and 1-7 mark in one-score games over the last two seasons, and its lack of a true road win since 2023.

With the NCAA's new five-years-to-play-five model eliminating the need to redshirt, FSU and programs nationwide have updated their rosters this week to drop the redshirt distinction entirely.
🔄 What Changed
Micahi Danzy, previously listed as a redshirt sophomore, is now simply a junior. Ja'Bril Rawls goes from redshirt junior to senior. Players like Daniel Lyons, Ashton Daniels, and Deante McCray, who would have been redshirt seniors, are now labeled Fifth Year.
Norvell confirmed FSU has been in contact with compliance and some former players about the ruling that grants an extra season to athletes who began college in 2022, calling it a unique dynamic. Former quarterback Tommy Castellanos and linebacker Elijah Herring are among the only eligible former Seminoles, since most other departed players from that class have already signed pro contracts or retired.
