Florida State freshman quarterback Luke Kromenhoek, a highly touted recruit and the centerpiece of FSU’s 2024 signing class, plans to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal. This decision comes as the Seminoles navigate a critical offseason following a disastrous 2-10 campaign.
🌟 Kromenhoek’s Season in Review
2024 Stats: Completed 52.4% of his passes for 502 yards, 3 TDs, and 2 interceptions. Added 113 rushing yards but was sacked 25 times.
Highs and Lows: Kromenhoek’s season included flashes of potential, such as a 42-yard run against Miami, but was marred by inconsistencies, turnovers, and a lack of protection.
🎯 A Precarious Quarterback Situation
With Kromenhoek’s potential departure, FSU’s quarterback room is left with redshirt sophomore Brock Glenn and incoming freshman Kevin Sperry.
The Seminoles are heavily linked to Boston College transfer Thomas Castellanos, a dual-threat QB with ties to offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn.
💰 Behind the Decision
Negotiations between Kromenhoek’s camp and FSU reportedly included discussions of NIL compensation, with sources indicating his requested salary reached the $800,000 range.
FSU’s willingness to meet such demands remains unclear, but head coach Mike Norvell has maintained a firm stance against public negotiation tactics.
🔍 What’s Next?
Kromenhoek’s departure highlights the urgency for FSU to secure an experienced quarterback from the portal. Castellanos, who has performed well under Malzahn in the past, remains a top target.
The Seminoles must balance immediate competitiveness with the development of their younger quarterbacks, making this offseason pivotal for the program’s rebuild.
