🏐 Seminole Standouts: Koenig and Louis Earn AVCA All-American Honorable Mentions

Florida State Volleyball's Audrey Koenig and Khori Louis have earned spots on the AVCA All-American Honorable Mention list, marking a significant achievement in their collegiate careers. Both players have been instrumental in leading FSU to its first ACC title since 2012.

Khori Louis, hailing from Tallahassee, has been amassing accolades since her freshman year. Her journey includes being named to the ACC All-Freshman Team, the All-ACC Second Team in her sophomore year, and now the All-ACC First Team, AVCA East All-Region Team, and AVCA All-American Honorable Mention.

Audrey Koenig's three-season stint with the Noles has been equally impressive. Her freshman year saw her named to the ACC All-Freshman Team and All-ACC Academic Team, followed by an All-ACC Second Team selection in her sophomore year. This season, she earned distinctions as the All-ACC First Team, ACC Co-Player of the Year, AVCA East All-Region Team, and AVCA All-American Honorable Mention.

Congratulations to both Audrey Koenig and Khori Louis for their well-deserved recognition as AVCA All-American Honorable Mention recipients, showcasing the strength and talent within FSU Volleyball.

🏈 FSU's Mastromanno Shines as Second-Team All-American

Florida State's redshirt junior punter, Alex Mastromanno, has been named a second-team All-American by The Sporting News, following his recognition from CBS Sports/247Sports. As a finalist for the Ray Guy Award, Mastromanno has proven to be one of the nation's top punters.

Hailing from Melbourne, Australia, Mastromanno boasts an impressive season average of 45.3 yards across 60 punts, ranking him 19th nationally and third in the ACC. His outstanding performance includes 17 punts over 50 yards and 24 landing inside the 20-yard line, contributing to FSU's national ranking of 5th in net punting average.

Mastromanno's skill was on full display in the ACC Championship Game against Louisville, with a career-high seven fair-caught punts. His prowess against Clemson and Miami included several 50-plus yard punts, effectively pinning opponents deep in their territory.

With a season-high 59-yard punt achieved in games against Clemson, Virginia Tech, and Pitt, Mastromanno's impact on the field is undeniable. His consistent performance throughout the season places him fourth in FSU's single-season history, highlighting his significant contribution to the Seminoles' success.

🔄 FSU's Lundy and Hill Opt for New Horizons via Transfer Portal

Florida State University's football roster is undergoing changes with redshirt junior linebacker DJ Lundy and redshirt freshman running back Rodney Hill announcing their intentions to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal.

DJ Lundy's Impact at FSU: Over four seasons, Lundy has been a pivotal part of the Seminoles' defense, participating in 45 games with 17 starts.

His contributions in FSU's undefeated 2023 season included 54 total tackles, six for loss, two sacks, an interception, four pass breakups, and a QB hit.

Lundy's career at FSU totals 183 tackles, 16.5 tackles for loss, five sacks, and one forced fumble. He has also had a limited but effective role as a fullback, scoring four career rushing touchdowns.

Rodney Hill's Potential: Hill, as a redshirt freshman, displayed promising skills with 190 yards on 50 carries, averaging 3.8 yards per carry.

Notable for his physical play, Hill had impactful moments against opponents like LSU and Pittsburgh. His total contribution over two seasons amounts to 334 rushing yards and a touchdown.

Hill's departure comes at a time when he was expected to take a more prominent role in FSU's backfield.

FSU and the Transfer Portal: The Transfer Portal has become an integral part of college football's landscape, facilitating the movement of players between programs.

FSU has been active in the portal, especially under Coach Mike Norvell's tenure. Last year, the Seminoles witnessed 22 players leave through the portal, including notable contributors like RB Treshaun Ward and WR Malik McClain.

However, FSU has also successfully utilized the portal to offset these departures, bringing in impactful players like WR Keon Coleman and DT Braden Fiske, who have been instrumental in FSU's 12-0 regular season in 2023.

The Transfer Portal allows NCAA athletes to explore their options while maintaining permissible communication with college coaches.

This year's portal window, shorter than last year's, underscores the fast-paced nature of current college football dynamics. Teams face the challenge of balancing roster stability with the opportunity to enhance their squad through this fluid transfer system.

As FSU navigates these changes, the focus will be on how they adapt and rebuild their team, reflecting the evolving nature of college football where strategic use of the Transfer Portal can significantly influence a team's success.

🤝 FSU's Final Push for Top Recruits McCray and Mincey

Florida State University's head coach Mike Norvell and his coaching staff are making their final in-person efforts to secure commitments from two top targets in the 2024 recruiting class.

Today, they're visiting Daytona Beach, Florida, for crucial in-home visits with Mainland High School standouts LJ McCray and Zavier Mincey.

LJ McCray - A Highly Sought After Talent: McCray, currently committed to Florida, is a five-star defensive lineman and a longtime target for FSU.

Standing at 6-foot-6 and weighing 260 pounds, McCray has been on FSU's radar since 2022 and has visited the campus eight times.

Despite his commitment to the Gators in October, FSU has persistently pursued McCray, hoping to flip his decision. His recent campus visit following a state championship win in Tallahassee signifies FSU's ongoing interest.

Auburn, having hosted McCray last weekend, is another strong contender in this recruitment battle.

Zavier Mincey - A Key Defensive Target: Mincey, a four-star defensive back, has also been on FSU's target list for some time.

Despite FSU's efforts, the current momentum in Mincey's recruitment seems to favor Miami. However, FSU is not backing down and is set to make their final appeal to Mincey this week.

He is expected to make a silent commitment on December 20 and announce his decision at the All-American Bowl on January 6.

Impressive Rankings: McCray and Mincey are among the nation's top prospects in their respective positions.

McCray is ranked as the No. 6 overall prospect and the No. 2 defensive lineman, while Mincey stands as the No. 71 overall player and the No. 6 safety in the nation, according to the Top247 Rankings.

FSU's efforts to recruit McCray and Mincey reflect the intense competition in college football recruiting, where relationships, persistent engagement, and strategic visits play a critical role in securing top talent.

As the signing period approaches, FSU aims to strengthen its future roster with these high-profile recruits.

🏈 FSU Secures Pac-12 QBs Ward and Uiagalelei for Visits

Florida State University is actively exploring options to enhance its quarterback roster, focusing on two prominent Pac-12 quarterbacks who are planning visits to Tallahassee this week.

Cam Ward’s Visit Plans: Former Washington State quarterback Cam Ward, following his visit to Miami, is set to visit Florida State starting Thursday. This visit could be crucial in his decision-making process, as he indicated that Miami and Florida State might be his final choices.

DJ Uiagalelei’s Scheduled Visit: DJ Uiagalelei, an Oregon State transfer and former Clemson quarterback, is also scheduled for an official visit to Florida State. Expected to arrive in Tallahassee on Friday, Uiagalelei's visit marks a significant step in FSU’s pursuit of a new quarterback.

Replacing Jordan Travis: With the graduation of ACC Player of the Year Jordan Travis, FSU is looking to bolster its quarterback room. Currently, FSU has rising senior Tate Rodemaker, redshirt freshman Brock Glenn, and incoming four-star QB Luke Kromenhoek on scholarship.

Ward and Uiagalelei’s Credentials: Both quarterbacks bring extensive experience and impressive physical stature, with Uiagalelei standing at 6-foot-4 and 252 pounds, and Ward at 6-2, 223. They both led productive offenses in the past season, showcasing their capability to manage high-scoring teams effectively.

Ward’s Background: Texas native Ward began his college career at Incarnate Word, earning All-America honors at the FCS level. He then transferred to Washington State, where he achieved remarkable statistics, including passing for over 3,000 yards in each of the past two seasons. Ward is also known for his ability to run, ranking fifth nationally in all-purpose yards.

Uiagalelei’s Journey: Uiagalelei, a former five-star high school quarterback, had a mixed tenure at Clemson before transferring to Oregon State for a standout 2023 season. He passed for 2,638 yards and 21 touchdowns, demonstrating his strong arm and capability as a passer.

FSU’s QB Search: With two top QB targets confirming visits, the Seminoles are positioning themselves as a prime destination for these sought-after quarterbacks. Their visit to Tallahassee could be pivotal in determining FSU’s quarterback future.

✍️ FSU's Final Recruiting Push Before National Signing Day

With National Signing Day looming on December 20, Florida State University's football coaches are focused on three main objectives: retaining their highest-ranked committed players, adding more talent to the 2024 class, and addressing crucial needs through the transfer portal.

Current Class Ranking and Challenges: FSU's 2024 class currently ranks No. 4 nationally, trailing only Georgia, Ohio State, and Alabama. To maintain this top-tier ranking, FSU faces the task of securing their key commits against late challenges from other schools. Their sights are also set on flipping high-profile recruits like Ohio State WR commit Jeremiah Smith and Florida DE commit LJ McCray.

Key Commitments to Watch: Among FSU's commitments, five-star DB KJ Bolden and five-star Edge Armondo Blount are crucial. Bolden, the highest-ranked commitment, is being pursued by Auburn and Georgia, while Miami is battling to flip Blount back. Both prospects' upcoming visits to Tallahassee will be crucial in solidifying their commitments.

Potential Flips and Uncommitted Targets: FSU is actively working to flip WR Jeremiah Smith from Ohio State and DE LJ McCray from Florida. The Noles are also keeping an eye on uncommitted targets like 3-star DT D'Nas White and 4-star Edge Lugard Edokpayi, among others.

FSU's Strategy: As the signing period approaches, FSU is making a concerted effort to strengthen its class by retaining committed players, flipping recruits from other schools, and exploring the transfer portal for immediate impact players.

The Seminoles' coaching staff is set to conduct in-person visits and make their final pitches to these top recruits, showcasing FSU's commitment to building a strong and competitive team for the upcoming seasons.

🎙️ Herbstreit Clashes with FSU Fans Over CFP Snub

Kirk Herbstreit, ESPN analyst, recently found himself in a heated Twitter exchange with FSU fans over the College Football Playoff (CFP) committee's controversial decision to exclude an undefeated FSU from the playoffs in favor of one-loss Alabama and Texas.

Herbstreit's Stance: Herbstreit, known for his incisive college football analysis, defended the CFP committee's decision in a lengthy Twitter reply, asserting that teams like Alabama, Texas, Michigan, and others were simply better than FSU.

His stance has been met with strong opposition from the FSU community.

Growing Controversy: The FSU snub has led to an antitrust investigation initiated by Florida's attorney general, probing potential unfair practices in the playoff selection process. This adds a serious legal dimension to what many FSU fans see as a blatant disregard for their team's undefeated season.

Herbstreit's Argument: In his tweet, Herbstreit recalled a similar scenario in 2000 when FSU was selected over Miami, suggesting a parallel situation where FSU fans were then less critical.

He emphasized his role as an analyst who provides opinions based on game assessments, not as someone with decision-making power in the CFP.

FSU Community's Response: FSU's exclusion from the CFP has been met with widespread disappointment and anger within the Seminole community.

Coach Mike Norvell and athletic director Michael Alford have publicly expressed their dismay, capturing the sentiment of a fanbase that feels their team's perfect season was unfairly overlooked.

Herbstreit's attempt to justify the committee's decision has only intensified the debate among FSU fans, who remain steadfast in their belief that their team deserved a spot in the playoffs.

The situation highlights the ongoing challenges and controversies in college football's ranking and selection processes, especially as they impact teams like FSU.

And that’s a wrap!
