🏈 FSU Excluded from College Football Playoff: A Controversial Decision
In a stunning and controversial decision, undefeated Florida State University has been left out of this year’s College Football Playoff (CFP), sparking widespread debate and disappointment.
Despite an impeccable 13-0 season record, the Seminoles were omitted from the playoff, a decision that has been met with strong public statements from FSU Head Football Coach Mike Norvell and Director of Athletics Michael Alford.
The Exclusion: A Historic Moment
For the first time in the 25-year history of the BCS/CFP era, an undefeated Power Five team has been denied the opportunity to compete for a national championship.
This exclusion is unprecedented and has shaken the foundations of college football’s postseason structure. FSU’s record includes three Top 25 wins and a dominant performance in both regular season and conference championship play.
I was curious what a mashup of Resume SP+ and Strength of Record would have to say about the top 7. Not quite what I expected:
1. Michigan (13-0)
2. Florida State (13-0)
3. Washington (13-0)
4. Ohio State (11-1)
5. Alabama (12-1)
6. Georgia (12-1)
7. Texas (12-1)— Bill Connelly (@ESPN_BillC)

The Committee's Decision: Undermining On-Field Performance
The CFP committee's decision to omit FSU in favor of No. 3 Texas and No. 4 Alabama, both of whom have losses on their record, has raised questions about the criteria used for playoff selection.
This move has effectively shifted the evaluation from on-field results to speculative analysis, sidelining FSU’s achievements and questioning the merit of their victories without star quarterback Jordan Travis.
Public Response: Anger and Disappointment
Coach Norvell expressed his frustration and disbelief at the committee’s decision, highlighting the injustice and the message it sends to players about the value of perseverance and on-field success.
Alford criticized the decision as destructive, stating it diminishes the integrity of the playoff system and undermines the season’s accomplishments. Norvell and Alford were far from the only ones speaking out:
Florida State scheduled an SEC powerhouse. They won a power five conference. They won all their games, overcoming adversity along the way. This isn’t figure skating, judges should never have been a part of it. #FSU#CFP

Florida State got absolutely hosed. They have Atleast 2 first round picks. Talent all over the field, goes undefeated, and still on the outside looking in. 2-0 vs SEC teams this season. 2014 Buckeyes got in with a third string QB. FSU Shld have been in!

The Seminoles' Performance: Strong Despite Adversity
FSU’s performance, especially in the absence of Jordan Travis, showcased the team's depth and adaptability. Victories against Florida and Louisville with backup quarterbacks Tate Rodemaker and freshman Brock Glenn were testament to FSU's strength and resilience.
The Seminoles' consistent success against top-tier competition, including a strong showing in the ACC Championship Game, seemingly warranted a playoff berth.
FSU had more yards with its third-string freshman QB than Michigan had with JJ McCarthy.
Louisville came in ranked higher than Iowa.
FSU has played a tougher schedule than Michigan.
Curious that the Noles are the undefeated team that doesn't deserve a playoff spot.

The Playoff Landscape: Questions of Fairness
The committee's preference for teams with losses over an undefeated FSU has ignited debates about fairness and the true purpose of the playoff system. The focus on hypothetical matchups over actual game results has disillusioned fans and critics alike, casting doubt on the playoff's legitimacy.
Outrageous, arrogant, and an absolute disgrace. In the final year of the system, it proved it didn’t work.

I’m excited for these playoffs games. By the new CFP logic, it won’t be the team that wins that moves on. It will be the team that looks better and has better statistics that moves on, regardless of what the score says. Should be fun to watch.

ESPN's Role: A Contributing Factor
ESPN, as the broadcast partner of the SEC, ACC, and the CFP, played a significant role in shaping the narrative around FSU’s playoff prospects. The network's emphasis on FSU's quarterback situation and potential playoff performance contributed to the discourse that ultimately influenced the committee's decision.
Booger’s the only guy speaking truth here and yeah the “SEC is a factor” Galloway admonishing his fellow panelists for implying that may be the case. To say INFLUENCING doesn’t take place here is burying your head in the sand. @FSUFootball those kids just got screwed. It’s ok 👍

Looking Ahead: FSU's Resolve Remains Strong
Despite the setback, FSU remains committed to proving its mettle in the upcoming Orange Bowl. The exclusion from the CFP, while disheartening, has not dampened the spirit and determination of the Seminoles. They aim to close the season with a defining victory, underscoring their status as a formidable force in college football.

🏀 Seminoles Secure Decisive Victory Over Kent State
In a dynamic display of talent and teamwork, the No. 15 Florida State Women's Basketball team (6-2) secured a commanding 76-49 win against Kent State (4-3) on Sunday afternoon. The victory, marked by a 45-25 second-half surge, was a showcase of the Seminoles' offensive prowess and defensive resilience at the Donald L. Tucker Center.
Standout Performances and Team Synergy:
Ta'Niya Latson's Scoring Leadership: Latson led the scoring with 15 points, demonstrating her shooting skills by going 5-of-13 on field goals and 5-of-6 from the foul line, setting the pace for the team's offensive performance.
Balanced Scoring Attack: The Seminoles enjoyed a well-rounded offensive effort with several players scoring in double figures. Sara Bejedi and Makayla Timpson contributed 14 points each, Amaya Bonner added 12, and O'Mariah Gordon chipped in with 11 points and five assists.
Defensive Dominance: Gordon led the defensive charge with nine rebounds, spearheading an effort that limited Kent State to a mere 25 percent shooting and forced 14 turnovers. FSU's defense proved pivotal in disrupting Kent State's rhythm throughout the game.
Game Progression and FSU's Ascendancy:
Early Challenges: The first quarter saw a closely contested battle, with Kent State edging ahead with a 14-11 lead. However, Latson's six points kept FSU within striking distance.
Second Quarter Surge: FSU turned the tide in the second quarter, outscoring Kent State 20-10 and entering halftime with a 31-24 lead. Gordon's eight points led the Seminoles at the break, showcasing their growing momentum.
Third Quarter Rhythm: The Seminoles extended their lead in the third quarter with a 20-15 advantage, driven by Latson and Gordon, who both tallied 11 points by the end of the period.
Dominant Final Stretch: FSU's strongest performance came in the fourth quarter, outscoring Kent State 25-10. This period solidified the Seminoles' dominance, highlighting their ability to finish games strongly.
Looking Ahead:
Next Challenge: The Seminoles return to the Tucker Center on Thursday, December 7, at 11 a.m., ready to host Jacksonville University. This upcoming game presents another opportunity for FSU to display their growing chemistry and skill.
In their decisive victory over Kent State, the Florida State Women's Basketball team demonstrated a blend of scoring depth, defensive tenacity, and the ability to adapt and excel under pressure. As they prepare for their next matchup, the Seminoles' performance against Kent State stands as a testament to their potential and the promise they hold for the rest of the season.
A Seminole Showdown: The Orange Bowl Challenge
The Florida State Seminoles' journey to the Orange Bowl, culminating in a high-stakes showdown with the Georgia Bulldogs, is a narrative of triumph and controversy.
Despite a perfect season and a commanding win in the ACC Championship, FSU, now ranked 5th, is set to face 6th-ranked Georgia, a team equally aggrieved by their exclusion from the College Football Playoff.
This matchup in Miami isn't merely a consolation; it's a clash of titans, each with a point to prove.
FSU's formidable defense, which dominated Louisville in the ACC Championship, is a cornerstone of their success.
With a season-high seven sacks, 14 tackles for loss, and 10 pass breakups, they've demonstrated a level of play that's among the nation's elite. The team's record 25 All-ACC selections, spanning every position, reflect a depth and talent unparalleled in recent history.
They're not just a defensive juggernaut; FSU's offense is equally formidable, balancing their top-ranked defense with an impressive scoring offense.
On the other side, Georgia, led by Coach Kirby Smart, enters the Orange Bowl with its own share of accolades and a desire to validate their season.
Smart's empathy for FSU's situation, as expressed in a joint Zoom call, underscores the shared experience of both teams — dominant throughout the season, yet sidelined from the ultimate college football goal.
This Orange Bowl clash is steeped in history and expectation. FSU's 5-5 record in previous appearances adds a layer of historical significance.
Their last victory in 2016 and the previous encounters with Georgia — in the 1984 Citrus Bowl and the 2003 Sugar Bowl — set a dramatic backdrop to this latest chapter.
As FSU prepares for this epic encounter, the Seminole community, led by Coach Mike Norvell, is not just looking to win a game; they're aiming to cement their legacy in a season that defied expectations.
This game is about pride, resilience, and the indomitable spirit of a team that has consistently shown its caliber against the country's best.
In a season of unpredictability and challenge, the Orange Bowl stands as a testament to the strength and spirit of college football.
It's a stage where legends are made, and for FSU, it's an opportunity to showcase their excellence, not just to their loyal fan base, but to the entire nation.
As December 30th approaches, the anticipation builds, promising a battle that will be remembered for years to come.
