🏀📉 Second-Half Push Falls Short vs. Miami 📉🏀
Florida State rallied, tied it, and had the Tucker Center buzzing but Miami closed stronger in an 83–73 loss that snapped the Seminoles’ six-game winning streak in the rivalry.
🔥 Jones’ Takeover Attempt
Lajae Jones poured in 21 points, including 18 in the second half, sparking a 13–3 run that erased a 10-point deficit and tied the game at 57 with under eight minutes remaining. It was his fifth 20+ point game of the season.
Chauncey Wiggins added 14 points and five rebounds, marking his 19th double-figure performance this year.
⚡ The Turning Point
After Kobe MaGee’s four-point play tied it at 57, Miami responded with a decisive 16–5 burst over the next four minutes. The Hurricanes outscored FSU 26–16 down the stretch to seal it.
📊 By the Numbers
FSU falls to 14–14 (7–8 ACC).
Miami improves to 22–6 (11–4 ACC).
Malik Reneau led all scorers with 23 points and 12 rebounds.
Why It Matters:
The fight was there. The finish wasn’t. In a tight ACC race, closing minutes are everything and this one flipped momentum in the standings.
Up next: Georgia Tech on Saturday (12 p.m.) as FSU looks to reset.
🥍📉 BC Pulls Away After Competitive Start 📉🥍
Florida State kept it tight early, but No. 11 Boston College used a dominant second half to hand the Seminoles a 19–7 loss at the Seminole Lacrosse Complex.
🔥 Early Fight
After falling behind 4–0, goals from Lola Mancuso, Brynn Perkins, and Meg Kenny trimmed the deficit to 4–3 by the end of the first quarter. Florida State trailed just 8–5 at halftime after Summer Harrell finished a transition opportunity sparked by a Catrina Tobin save.
💥 Second-Half Surge
Boston College opened the third quarter with five straight goals, stretching control of the game. Harrell answered with her second goal of the afternoon and later completed her first career hat trick in the fourth.
📊 Notable Marks
Harrell now has eight goals this season and recorded her second multi-goal performance. Mancuso extended her point streak to 21 games.
Why It Matters:
The flashes are there, especially from the freshman attackers, but sustaining that level against ranked ACC opponents remains the next step.
Up next: A road test at No. 1 North Carolina on Friday (5 p.m., ACCNX).
🥎🏠 Five-Game Homestand, Invitational Adjustments Ahead 🏠🥎
Florida State (12–4) stays home for a packed week, hosting Florida A&M, FGCU, and Rutgers as part of the Unite Game and the Unconquered Invitational.
📅 Schedule Shift

🏀📊 McCray Cracks Top-10 in ACC Transfer Rankings 📊🏀
Florida State’s rebuild under Luke Loucks continues to gain validation; this time from the portal rankings.
Robert McCray V was named the No. 9 transfer addition in the ACC from the 2025 portal cycle after blending scoring and playmaking into one of the league’s most complete guard seasons.
📈 By the Numbers
15.7 PPG
5.9 APG (4th in ACC)
3.8 RPG
1.1 SPG
After starting his career at Wake Forest and flourishing at Jacksonville, McCray has elevated his game again in Tallahassee; becoming one of the ACC’s most dynamic guards and a foundational piece for Loucks moving forward.
🌎 The Company He’s Keeping
The list features major impact names like UNC’s Henri Veesaar (No. 1), Louisville’s Ryan Conwell (No. 2), and Miami’s Malik Reneau (No. 3). McCray’s inclusion places him among the league’s most influential transfer additions this season.
Why It Matters:
Portal evaluation is program-defining in modern college basketball. McCray is proof of concept for Loucks’ roster-building approach.
The Simple Way to Stop Peeing at Night
Waking up multiple times a night to use the bathroom isn't just frustrating—it's robbing you of the deep, restorative sleep your body needs. And it's not something you just have to live with.
Many women over 50 accept frequent nighttime urination as an inevitable part of aging. But recent research shows there's a natural solution that can help you sleep through the night again, without prescription medications or invasive procedures.
🏈💼 Seminole Boosters Pause Spring Tour 💼🏈
Florida State’s long-running Seminole Boosters tour will not take place this spring, marking a notable shift in how the program approaches donor engagement.
📉 Why the Pause?
According to multiple sources, the return on investment from recent tours has diminished, and both FSU Athletics and Seminole Boosters have discussed scaling back for several years. Broader selective spending across the athletic department and questions surrounding overall marketability also factored into the decision.
The annual tour has been a staple dating back to Bobby Bowden’s donor circuit. It could return in the future, but for now, it’s on hold.
🔄 A Broader Trend
FSU isn’t alone. Other programs, including in-state rival Florida, have also reduced or eliminated large-scale spring booster tours in recent years.
🎯 What’s Next?
The likely pivot: smaller, more targeted events focused on high-level donors rather than broad regional stops.
🏈🌪️ Recruiting Board Buzzing Across Multiple Classes 🌪️🏈
Spring visit season is here and Florida State is firmly in the mix at multiple positions from 2027 to 2028.
🧱 Linebacker Momentum Building
2028 Eau Gallie LB Gabriel Player says Texas, Florida and FSU are standing out early — and Ernie Sims is a major reason why. The 6’4” prospect praised Sims’ authenticity and development pitch after picking up a February offer.
2027 LB Michael Griffin (NC) returns April 11 after multiple recent trips to Tallahassee, with Oklahoma and Michigan also pushing.
Meanwhile, Kissimmee DL Jason Lewis will open his spring tour at FSU on March 13 following a February offer.
🍢 Elite WR Battle in Tallahassee
Top-100 WR Jamarin Simmons (No. 64 nationally) has Clemson in pole position — but FSU is right there as the hometown contender. Official visits are set, and Norvell plus WR coach Tim Harris are leaning into the proximity advantage. Miami, Florida and Auburn remain in the mix.
🎯 QB Board Expands
Tennessee QB Andre Adams (No. 18 QB in 2027 per 247Sports) will visit March 30 after a February offer from new QBs coach Austin Tucker. The dual-threat threw for 3,418 yards and 35 TDs with just one INT last season — plus 855 rushing yards.
🛡️ Trenches Priority
2027 OT Abram Eisenhower (No. 46 OT nationally) returns March 13 as part of a loaded SEC-heavy travel schedule. Georgia and Auburn already have official visits scheduled, but FSU is firmly in the spring evaluation phase.
Why It Matters:
FSU is stacking visits across multiple classes and premium positions. Linebacker recruiting, in particular, feels noticeably different right now.
Spring visits will separate real traction from early chatter.
🏈🔄 Scheme Shift Could Unlock Tre Wisner 🔄🏈
When Quintrevion “Tre” Wisner transferred in from Texas, the reaction was simple: productive, proven, steady but was the fit right?
With Mike Norvell now calling plays instead of Gus Malzahn, that question looks very different.
📊 Concept Matters
Wisner has been far more efficient on outside zone concepts (5.4 YPC) than inside zone (4.2 YPC). Under Malzahn last season, FSU leaned heavily on inside zone (51% of rush attempts) and barely featured outside zone.
That’s the mismatch.
Norvell’s history, however, tells a different story. At Memphis and during earlier stretches at FSU, his run game has been far more varied; blending outside zone, counter, power, and pull schemes depending on personnel.
🧠 Tailoring to Talent
Norvell has shown a willingness to adjust his run concepts year to year. If that holds true, Wisner’s horizontal, cutback-heavy style fits much more naturally into a diversified rushing attack.
And it’s not just Wisner, Ousmane Kromah’s best efficiency numbers also came on counter and split-zone concepts.
Why It Matters:
FSU invested heavily in the running back room. If Norvell leans into concepts that stress defenses laterally instead of vertically, it could maximize two of the offense’s biggest portal additions.
A scheme tweak might be the simplest reason for optimism.
And that’s a wrap!
Momentum swings.
That was the theme across multiple sports this week; basketball couldn’t close, lacrosse couldn’t sustain, baseball looks to reset, and recruiting continues to build quietly in the background.
Spring is the evaluation season for teams, for coaches, and for fans deciding what they believe about this trajectory.
We’ll be watching it all with you.
Talk tomorrow,
Chief
