FSU Men's Basketball Seals Thrilling Victory Against Virginia Tech

Florida State's men's basketball team clinched a dramatic win at home against Virginia Tech, with Primo Spears playing the hero in the game's final moments.

Spears, after missing an earlier opportunity, successfully converted two crucial free throws with just 1.2 seconds left on the clock, pushing the Seminoles ahead by two. Teammate Taylor Bol Bowen added another free throw to secure a 77-74 victory for Florida State.

This win improves FSU's record to 8-6 overall and 2-1 in the ACC, while Virginia Tech drops to 9-5, 1-2 in the conference.

FSU's comeback was highlighted by their resilient defense and significant contributions from the bench, outscoring Virginia Tech's bench 39-14. The Seminoles, after trailing by nine points early in the second half, rallied with a 14-0 run to gain the lead and maintained their momentum despite challenges from the Hokies.

Four FSU players scored in double figures, with Spears and Jaylan Gainey each adding 11 points, and Darin Green Jr. and Jamir Watkins contributing 10 points apiece.

Baba Miller also made a notable impact with eight points and a game-high 10 rebounds.

The Seminoles look to continue their momentum after two straight ACC victories in their upcoming home game against Wake Forest.

Florida State Welcomes Jalen Brown: A Homecoming for the Seminoles' Newest Star

The Florida State Seminoles have made a speedy addition to their roster, securing the commitment of former LSU wide receiver Jalen Brown. Brown's decision to join FSU, announced on social media, marks a significant return to his roots in Florida.

In an exclusive conversation with Noles247.com, Brown shared his reasons for choosing FSU. "When my name finally hit the portal, Florida State was the very first school to call my phone," he said. This prompt response from FSU was a decisive factor for Brown, echoing the same warmth and enthusiasm he experienced during his high school recruitment.

Brown's connection with FSU's coaching staff, particularly head coach Mike Norvell and coach Dugans, played a crucial role in his decision. "Them two coaches, I can talk to them about anything β€” outside of football, within football. I really build that trust with that coaching staff," Brown remarked, highlighting the importance of personal relationships in his transfer decision.

A native of Miami and a product of Gulliver Prep, Brown initially chose LSU over FSU in the 2023 recruiting class.

His freshman year with the Tigers saw limited participation, but it did not diminish his potential as a standout athlete. Known for his blistering speed in high school, Brown brings a unique skill set to the Seminoles.

Jalen Brown's commitment is a significant win for FSU, reflecting the team's successful recruitment strategies and the appeal of its program. His addition to the roster is expected to infuse new energy and capability into the Seminoles' offense, as they look forward to a promising season ahead.

FSU Secures Commitment from Earl Little Jr., Bolstering Defensive Backfield

Florida State Seminoles have achieved another recruiting triumph by securing the commitment of Earl Little Jr., a defensive back transfer from Alabama. Little's decision marks a reunion with his former high school teammate Marvin Jones Jr. and his American Heritage head coach, Patrick Surtain Sr., who now oversees FSU's defensive backs.

A redshirt freshman, Little played primarily on special teams at Alabama, recording two tackles this past season. His commitment to FSU is seen as a significant acquisition, given his status as a top-100 national player and the No. 12 cornerback in the country coming out of high school.

Little's raw talent and versatility, often compared to that of Pro Bowl player Tyrann Mathieu, make him a promising addition to FSU's defense. His ability to play at outside corner, in the slot, or even at safety, combined with FSU's proven track record of developing defensive backs, signals exciting potential for the Seminoles' defensive strategy.

As a four-star transfer with a 90 Transfer Grade by 247Sports, Little is among the top prospects in his class, bringing depth and dynamism to FSU's secondary.

His decision to choose FSU over other notable programs like Ole Miss underscores the appeal of the Seminoles' program and coaching staff.

The addition of Little, alongside Marvin Jones Jr., fortifies FSU's defense, especially in the secondary, as the team continues to build a formidable lineup capable of competing at the highest levels of college football.

Noles in Strong Contention for Cornerback Davonte Brown's Commitment

Mike Norvell and co. may be on the brink of landing another nice transfer commitment from cornerback Davonte Brown, a former Miami and UCF player. As at least one recruiting insider has placed a prediction in favor of FSU, the prospects of Brown joining the Seminoles are looking increasingly bright.

Brown's connection with FSU dates back to the last transfer cycle when he ultimately chose Miami to play alongside his younger brother, four-star recruit Damari Brown.

Re-entering the transfer portal seeking a fresh start, Brown's familiarity with FSU's recruitment approach and his relationships with key staff members, such as DB coach Patrick Surtain and LB coach Randy Shannon, position FSU as a favorable destination. Both coaches have previous connections with Brown, enhancing the likelihood of his move to FSU.

FSU's interest in Brown is not just due to his potential but also his substantial experience, including over 2,000 career snaps and a solid defensive record.

Standing at 6-2 and weighing 185 pounds, Brown possesses the size and skill set that FSU looks for in its defensive lineup. His ability in run support and versatility, potentially fitting into a safety role, add to his appeal.

The recruitment of Brown, who showed impressive form at UCF with an 82.3 PFF Grade in 2021, is seen as a strategic move by FSU to bolster its defensive backfield, especially following the departures of Renardo Green and Jarrian Jones.

The Seminoles are banking on Brown rediscovering his 2021-22 form, comfortable with the risks following his less impactful season at Miami.

With mutual interest and a history of engagement, the prediction of Brown committing to FSU carries a strong probability. This move, if materialized, is expected to significantly enhance FSU's defensive capabilities and depth for the upcoming season.

FSU's Legal Battle with ACC: A Turning Point for Seminoles' Future

Florida State University's ongoing legal case against the ACC is reaching a critical juncture, with rumors suggesting significant developments that could reshape the Seminoles' athletic future.

According to reliable sources, other schools may soon join FSU in the legal action against the ACC, potentially bolstering FSU's position. This multi-front legal challenge could signal the end of the ACC in its current form and accelerate FSU's exit from the conference.

Despite the complexity of the case, which might involve various legal proceedings in different states and possibly in federal court, FSU appears to have a strong argument to keep the case in Florida.

The ACC's initial filing in North Carolina is seen as anticipatory, and there are indications that the conference did not adhere to its bylaws in this process.

Discovery, the phase where evidence is exchanged, is expected to begin soon. This phase may be shorter than anticipated, as FSU has already spent considerable time reviewing relevant documents.

The case is likely to proceed to mediation, where a settlement could be negotiated. It's speculated that FSU may settle for around $200 million, significantly less than the anticipated $572 million buyout.

However, there's a possibility that the ACC, influenced by smaller schools, could prolong the litigation to maintain the status quo.

FSU hopes to resolve this matter by August to announce its departure from the ACC and join another conference in 2025. However, there's a chance that FSU might remain in the ACC through the 2025 season.

The strength of FSU's case is reinforced by the fact that ESPN did not execute its option to extend its agreement with the ACC beyond 2027, which required notice to extend in 2021.

ACC Commissioner Jim Phillips then extended the notice deadline on his own accord to 2025 without the required member consent (2/3 vote).

This breach of the conference bylaws could significantly reduce the damages payable by FSU or other schools. The university is in a favorable position, especially if the case remains in Florida, and a successful outcome could lead to a transformative era for FSU athletics.

Confirmed Visits from Alabama Transfers Malik Benson and Roydell Williams

More news out of the transfer portal as Alabama transfers Malik Benson and Roydell Williams have scheduled visits to Tallahassee. This news follows the big commitment on Saturday of their teammate, Earl Little Jr., to the Seminoles.

Benson, the No. 1 ranked Junior College recruit in the 2023 class, showcased his skills at Hutchinson Community College, impressing with 97 receptions for 2,152 yards and 21 touchdowns.
