Duce Robinson was named to the Preseason All-ACC team Wednesday and picked up 12 votes for Preseason Player of the Year, becoming FSU's lone representative on the squad for the second straight year.
📊 The Case
Robinson caught 56 passes for 1,081 yards and six touchdowns last season, becoming the 11th Seminole ever to reach 1,000 receiving yards. His five 120-yard games ranked second nationally, and he was twice named ACC Receiver of the Week.
Off the field, Robinson became FSU's first first-team Academic All-American since 2012 and graduated in May.
🏅 Where He Stands Nationally
Miami's Darian Mensah was named Preseason ACC Player of the Year. Robinson finished fifth in that voting, the only non-quarterback to crack the top five.

FSU held its first practice of fall camp Wednesday, and while Norvell was quick to caveat that it was still "basically pajamas," a few things stood out from him, Ashlynd Barker, and the team's newest veteran voice.

Norvell said he felt Daniels' comfort compared to spring, when the quarterback would sometimes force throws or take an extra half-second to get through his progressions. "Today was really clean for him in that regard," Norvell said, pointing to a touchdown connection with Duce Robinson as a highlight.
Kevin Sperry had a mixed day with a couple of missed throws, while newcomer Malachi Marshall, working through his first practice after missing spring, drew praise for his communication and command given the circumstances.
🗣️ Barker Settling Into a New Role and Voice
Barker is making the move from boundary safety to rover, the spot vacated by Earl Little Jr., and said his size and ability to pick things up quickly made the transition make sense. He also opened up about a moment with fellow DB K.J. Kirkland: "We are going to be super good... there is something about this team."
🧠 Tom Herman's Role Taking Shape
Norvell gave his fullest description yet of Tom Herman's job, saying Herman spends time with the defense on personnel before bringing a big-picture read back to Norvell to compare notes.

Micahi Danzy knows his game isn't complete, but after leading the ACC in yards per reception as a first-year receiver, he's entering Year 3 with real confidence and a specific plan to get there.

Danzy is working to shorten his breaks from a four-or-five-step process down to three, using the JUGS machine to fine-tune the intermediate routes that were a weakness in his first season at the position.
He credited OC Tim Harris Jr. for slowly building his confidence: "Now he's like, 'Dawg, this is your year. You've got to show the world what you can do.'"

Danzy's 21.1 yards per reception led the ACC last season, and he added 216 rushing yards and three scores on jet sweeps and reverses. He also credited Duce Robinson's work ethic as something the receiver room tries to emulate.

Boldin, who switched from quarterback to receiver at FSU and battled back from a torn ACL to lead the 2002 offense, told players he never feared judgment, only failure, a mindset Barker said he plans to carry into this season.
Norvell said the staff built a film package showing Boldin's toughness on the field, including moments where he described wanting opponents to "feel me" on blocking plays.

For the second straight year, FSU is replacing its entire starting offensive line, but Norvell says he feels considerably better about this group than last year's mercenary unit at the same point in camp.
🔄 Where the Battles Stand
Auburn transfer Xavier Chaplin is locked in at left tackle, and Andre Otto is the presumptive left guard. Center is a battle between Bradyn Welch-Joiner and Chavez Thompson, while Nate Pabst, Chimdia Nwaiwu, and Paul Bowling compete for the final two spots on the right side.
📈 Why Norvell Is More Confident
Unlike last year's grouping of transfers stitched together to fill holes, Norvell pointed to cohesion built through a full offseason together as the key difference this time around.

South Alabama transfer Nehemiah Chandler and veteran Quindarrius Jones are the top two candidates. Chandler is the superior cover corner, but Jones offers more resistance against the run after Chandler missed a third of his tackles last season.

Charles Lester III, a former top-100 recruit, is the most likely name to earn snaps as the fourth corner, with blue-chip freshman Chuck Kennon viewed as a developmental piece who could rise if his talent forces the staff's hand.

Norvell is 7-17 over the last two seasons, and his buyout has shrunk to just over $45 million if FSU moved on after this year, down from roughly $60 million a year ago.
Eight wins, given a schedule that includes road trips to Alabama, Miami, and Louisville, appears to be the number that all but guarantees Norvell returns. Anything below seven wins looks difficult to survive.

Trainer Travis Norton said Mandrell, who earned Freshman All-America honors with 6.5 sacks a season ago, has "elite first-round bend" and standout agility. Darryll, listed just an inch taller, is more of a technician who sets up blockers with his hands and pad level.
