⛳ Weaver, Albright Earn All-America Scholar Honors ⛳

Two standout Noles are getting recognized for their dominance—on the course and in the classroom.

Florida State men’s golf stars Tyler Weaver and Gray Albright were named 2024–25 Cobalt Golf All-America Scholars by the Golf Coaches Association of America. The award honors athletes with a GPA of 3.2+, a stroke average under 76.0, and standout character on and off the green.

📚 Smart + Sharp
• Both Weaver and Albright were also named to the 2025 All-ACC Academic Team.
• 556 D1 golfers across 190 schools earned the honor this year.

🌍 Tyler Weaver’s Wild Summer
• Shot 9-under (63) to set an amateur course record at Killarney Golf Club.
• Won the European Team Championship and St. Andrews Links Trophy with GB&I.
• Currently ranked No. 13 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings—2nd among Europeans.

🚀 Gray Albright’s Pro Debut
After wrapping up his FSU career, Albright is already making noise on the PGA TOUR Americas, finishing T-10 at the Commissionaires Ottawa Open with a 20-under finish.

🎯 Big Picture
The Seminole golf pipeline is thriving, with Weaver emerging as a potential superstar and Albright already climbing the pro ranks.

💪 Ponder Commits: FSU Lands Massive 2026 Center 💪

Florida State just secured the foundation piece of Luke Loucks’ rebuild.

Marcis Ponder, a 6-foot-11, 300-pound bruiser ranked No. 83 nationally in the 2026 class, committed to FSU on Tuesday after a strong summer pursuit from the new staff. The big man from Springfield (Va.) Gillion Academy is Loucks’ first basketball-only commitment and a major recruiting win.

🎯 Why FSU Won
• Ponder says FSU showed up at every game this summer.
• He loved that Loucks came “straight from the NBA.”
• Relationships—especially with recruiter Gerald Gillion—played a major role.

🧱 Scouting Breakdown
• Physical presence: rebounds, rim protection, punishing finishes
• High motor: plays through contact and missed touches
• Underrated skill: touch around the basket and smart passing when doubled

👀 What They’re Saying
“Looks like a fully grown man playing with children out there... tries to dunk everything... plays with a motor that was impressive.” —247Sports

🎯 Big Picture
This isn’t just a win—it’s a statement. Ponder gives FSU a dominant interior anchor for the future and shows the Loucks era is swinging big and connecting early.

🔥 Norvell Sets the Tone for Fall Camp 🔥

FSU head coach Mike Norvell met with the media on Tuesday to kick off fall camp and laid out his vision for the 2025 season—and it’s all about urgency.

🗣️ Key Themes:
Edge and desperation: Norvell wants this team “desperate to be better”—sacrificing comfort and fighting for greatness daily.
Competition everywhere: From Tour of Duty to practice, every phase was designed to create one-on-one moments where “someone wins and someone loses.”
Building team identity: Whether 5 months in or 5 years deep, players are tasked with putting their stamp on this season.

🧱 Roster & Camp Highlights:
• OL additions Sawchuk, Blackwell, and Wilson are standing out.
• Freshman Kromah has exceeded expectations—Norvell says he watched him more than any recruit in his career.
• Depth chart fluidity is expected early, with August 30th as the key target for finalized rotations.

🏈 New Faces, Big Energy:
Norvell praised new assistant Zach Arnett for bringing great energy and perspective to the defense, adding: “It’s all hands on deck.”

📣 Final Word:
“We get one shot. One opportunity,” Norvell said. “This team has what it takes… now it’s time to go apply it.”

🚀 2027 RB Target Mikel Stephen Drawing National Eyes 🚀

Florida State is keeping tabs on one of the top young running backs in the country: Mikel Stephen, a rising junior out of Madison Central (MS), who’s already flashing SEC-caliber speed and leadership.

👀 Early Buzz:
• Clocked at 4.5 in the 40, Stephen stands 5’11”, 185 lbs heading into his junior season.
• He holds an offer from Mississippi State and is being tracked by FSU, Georgia, Florida, Oklahoma, Louisville, Ohio State, and Ole Miss.
• While still unranked, he’s viewed as a breakout candidate in the 2027 class.

🗓️ Recruiting Outlook:
Stephen is expected to visit several campuses this fall—and with FSU’s name in the mix, the ‘Noles will want to stay consistent in their outreach.

🧨 5⭐ LB Kaden Henderson Locks in Visit to Doak 🧨

One of the top defensive prospects in the nation is coming to Tallahassee this fall.

Kaden Henderson, the No. 3 linebacker and a consensus five-star in the 2027 class, will visit FSU on Oct. 4 for the Florida State–Miami rivalry game, as he continues a loaded game day tour of national powerhouses.

📍 The Schedule:
• Visits set for Clemson, Miami, LSU, Alabama, Florida, Ohio State, and FSU
• Holds 40+ offers, with no clear-cut favorite yet
• 6'2", 200-pounder had 92 tackles, 4 forced fumbles, and 1 INT last season at Jesuit (Tampa)

🚨 Why It Matters:
Henderson ranks as the No. 33 overall prospect nationally and is one of the top five players in Florida. A strong showing at Doak under the lights could make a lasting impression.

💥 FSU in Hot Pursuit of 4⭐ Reclass Edge Andrew Rogers 💥

Florida State is making a late push for newly reclassified 2026 edge rusher Andrew Rogers, who recently named the Seminoles in his top five alongside Auburn, LSU, Michigan State, and Virginia Tech.

🔍 Key Details:
6'6", 240 lbs, ranked No. 324 nationally, No. 32 among edge rushers
• Unofficial visit set for Oct. 11 (Pitt game weekend at Doak)
• Has already visited South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia Tech

📅 Despite a scheduled commitment announcement on Aug. 22, Rogers says he’ll keep taking visits and is focused on “consistency” throughout the fall.

🧱 Bigger Picture:
FSU has yet to land an edge rusher in the 2026 cycle. Rogers and Georgia Tech commit Chris Carbin, who’s working on scheduling a visit, are both key targets as Coach Terrance Knighton looks to reload the trenches.

🏀 FSU to Host 4⭐ SF Gage Mayfield for Official Visit 🏀

One of the top wings in the 2026 class, Gage Mayfield (No. 75 overall), has narrowed his recruitment to five schools — and Florida State made the cut.

📌 Final Five:
• Florida State
• Michigan
• Oklahoma
• Tennessee
• Vanderbilt

🔥 Why FSU Made the List:

“A very close coaching staff who really love what they do and just love being around the players and being able to help their players not only on the court but off the court as well.”

The 6'7" small forward out of Alabama will begin his official visit to Tallahassee on August 1, followed by trips to Vanderbilt (Sept. 6), Oklahoma (Sept. 13), and Michigan (Sept. 20).

🚀 Scouting Report:
• Explosive in transition
• Elite defender and slasher
• Rapidly improving jumper and off-the-dribble creation
• Averaged 13.8 PPG and 5.2 RPG with ProOne (UAA) this summer

📈 Mayfield was a spring breakout star, rising quickly in the rankings — and FSU is firmly in the race as his recruitment nears a decision.

And that’s a wrap!

Fall camp is in full swing, recruiting is on fire, and FSU’s future is looking stacked on every court and field. From golf greens in Europe to Friday night lights in Mississippi, the Seminole brand is everywhere right now—and it’s not slowing down anytime soon.

We’ll keep the updates coming. You just keep repping the Tribe.

Until tomorrow,
–The Chief
