How would you rate FSU’s momentum on the trail right now? |
🏹 Welcome to The Chief Brief! 🏹
Happy Monday Seminole!
FSU baseball’s season ended one game shy of Omaha, but recruiting season is just heating up — and the Seminoles are swinging big across both sides of the ball.
Here’s what we’ve got in today’s edition:
💔 Season Ends in Corvallis
FSU’s hopes of returning to Omaha were dashed in a slugfest loss to Oregon State. Despite outhitting the Beavers 17–12, the Noles couldn’t climb out of an early 13-run hole.
📝 First Visit Weekend, First Commitment
DL Wihtlley Cadeau gave FSU its first summer pledge after a surprise official visit — flipping momentum in the trenches for the 2026 class.
🧨 Forkpa Nearly Pulls the Trigger
Four-star linebacker Duyon Forkpa Jr. didn’t commit — but he might as well have. “I think I’m ready to be a ’Nole,” he told reporters after wrapping up his visit.
🔥 Colton Jr. Names FSU His Leader
Rodney Colton Jr. now says FSU leads his recruitment following an OV that showed off positional versatility and NFL prep.
💪 FSU Still Firmly in It for TJ White
One of the top LBs in the country confirmed the Noles remain near the top after a strong visit. July 18 is a date to watch.
🛡️ Five-Star Corner Likes What He Sees
Samari Matthews’ third trip to Tallahassee was his best yet. The Noles are in the final group heading into an August 10 decision.
📡 WR Flip Watch: Devin Carter
Auburn commit (and FSU legacy) Devin Carter says his OV “made a stamp.” He’ll return for the season opener vs. Alabama.
🛡️ Currence Listening — Despite South Carolina Commitment
Top-100 safety J’Zavien Currence gave FSU a real shot this weekend. It’s down to the Noles and Gamecocks.
Let’s dive in 👇
💔 FSU Baseball Falls Short in Game 3, Season Ends in Corvallis 💔
If your child gets the opportunity to play at FSU for this man, take it!
My family has been blessed to have had Link Jarrett and Micah Posey in our lives for the past few years. This FSU Baseball program does so much more than just develop good baseball players ❤️#foreverNoles

Florida State’s run to Omaha came to a heartbreaking end Sunday night, as No. 8 Oregon State overwhelmed the Seminoles 14–10 in Game 3 of the Corvallis Super Regional.
The Beavers erupted for 13 runs in the first three innings, including five home runs, and never let go of the lead despite a gritty offensive effort from the Noles.
📉 How It Unfolded:
Max Williams gave FSU early life with a 2-run homer in the 1st.
Wes Mendes was chased before finishing the 1st after surrendering 7 runs, 6 with two outs.
Trent Caraway crushed a grand slam in the 3rd to blow it open.
Myles Bailey launched a 428-foot bomb — his 19th of the season — but it wasn’t enough.
🔥 By the Numbers:
FSU outhit Oregon State 17–12 but stranded 10 runners.
OSU only left 3 on base — and made every big swing count.
Prescott, heroic in Game 2, left with an apparent injury after 7 pitches on Sunday.
⚰️ The Ending:
Trailing by 6 in the 9th, FSU plated two final runs — including an RBI double by Gage Harrelson — before falling short.
The Beavers now head to their 8th College World Series, while FSU finishes the season 42–17 — and one game away from Omaha.

Three-star defensive lineman Wihtlley Cadeau committed to the Seminoles over the weekend, becoming the first pledge from FSU’s summer visit slate — and giving the 2026 class its first big man in the trenches.
💬 “I love the history behind Florida State,” Cadeau told On3. “The coaching staff is great too. I have a lot of love for them. The environment and the players fit me too.”

🚨 Surprise Turn:
Cadeau’s FSU visit wasn’t even on the original calendar — it came together last-minute after DL coach Terrance Knighton made a strong connection. The trip clearly sealed the deal.
While Cadeau had additional official visits scheduled to Georgia and Mississippi State, it’s unclear if he’ll still take them after giving FSU his commitment.
🧨 “I Think I’m Ready to Be a ’Nole” — FSU Moves Close on 4⭐ LB 🧨

Florida State may not have landed a commitment this weekend from Duyon Forkpa Jr. — but it sure feels like one is coming.
The four-star IMG Academy linebacker wrapped up his official visit Sunday and didn’t wait for a question before dropping a statement:
“All I got to say is, I think I’m ready to be a ’Nole.”
😮 Not a commitment yet, but Forkpa Jr. made it clear FSU has surged to the top.
🧠 Why FSU’s Winning:
The loyalty factor: FSU stayed consistent even after Forkpa’s injury, unlike other schools.
A strong bond with players and staff: “It was like I’d known them for a good minute.”
A defensive scheme “made for backers to succeed” — including playing off the edge and off the ball.
📍 The Relationships:
Forkpa Jr. spoke highly of HC Mike Norvell, DC Tony White, LBs coach John Papuchis, and assistant Ernie Sims. His longest-standing connection is with Norvell.
🎯 What’s Next:
He’s planning to return home, talk with his family, and decide whether to commit or continue the process. Forkpa still has officials scheduled with North Carolina, Michigan, and Miami — with previous visits to Colorado and Florida.
📊 Ranking:
No. 242 overall
No. 15 linebacker in the 2026 class (247 Composite)
Pet insurance could help you offset rising veterinary costs

Veterinarians nationwide reported that corporate managers pushed clinics to focus on profit, with vets often paid based on revenue. This encouraged them to see more pets, order more tests, and upsell services, creating a growing burden for uninsured pet owners. Pet insurance could help you offset some of these rising costs, with some providing up to 90% reimbursement. View Money’s top pet insurance picks to see plans starting at only $10/month.
🔥 FSU Now Leads for 4⭐ LB Rodney Colton Jr. 🔥
Another weekend, another linebacker leaning Garnet and Gold.
Rodney Colton Jr., a four-star LB from Newnan, Ga., declared Florida State his leader after an impactful official visit to Tallahassee.
“FSU is my top, I ain’t going to lie,” Colton told Noles247. “They beat the school I was looking at.”
📈 Stock Rising:
Colton has already visited Penn State and UCLA.
Still plans OVs to Ole Miss (June 13) and Colorado (June 20).
A public commitment is expected on August 9 — and FSU is firmly in the driver’s seat.
🧠 Why FSU Stands Out:
Colton praised the coaching staff — including Mike Norvell, Tony White, John Papuchis, Ernie Sims, and Devin Rispress — and highlighted the energy and vision shared throughout the visit.
🎯 Positional Fit:
Colton was sold on his NFL potential in White’s scheme:
“Me playing Mike, Will, or Sam — I can play for all 32 teams when that time comes.”
Already a versatile EDGE in high school, Colton’s ability to move around the second level has big-league upside.
📐 Measurables:

Florida State continues to hold firm with one of the nation’s top linebacker prospects.
TJ White, the No. 86 overall player and No. 5 LB in the 2026 class, wrapped up his official visit this weekend — and confirmed that the Seminoles remain a serious contender.
“It was a good OV overall… I really feel the exact same [as before], really better about the defense, about the team.”
🔎 Visit Highlights:
White spent extensive time with LB coach John Papuchis, DC Tony White, HC Mike Norvell, and assistant Ernie Sims.
He got a clearer picture of how he’d fit — playing both on-ball and off-ball linebacker in FSU’s multiple-look defense.
📍 Still in the Top Group:
“They’ve been in my top schools since my last visit. They’re still in the top.”
🗓️ Decision Timeline:
July 18 is a possible commitment date, though White says he might wait until August.

🛡️ FSU Impresses 5⭐ CB Samari Matthews on Key Official Visit 🛡️
I'm in Tallahassee, FSU, I'm with the Seminoles.
— Samari “Smoke” Matthews (@samari_matthews)
1:06 AM • Jun 9, 2025
Florida State just made its strongest push yet for one of the top cornerbacks in the country.
Samari Matthews, the No. 30 overall prospect in the 2026 class (Rivals250), returned to Tallahassee for his third visit this year — and left with the Seminoles squarely in the mix heading into his August decision.
“The Florida State staff truly feels like family… I can confidently say they’ve put themselves in a great position moving forward.”
🏈 Why It Matters:
Matthews is a 6’1”, 185-pound lockdown CB out of Hough HS in Cornelius, NC.
He's being heavily courted by Miami, Texas, and South Carolina — and will visit both Austin and Columbia in the coming weeks.
A commitment is expected on August 10.
🧠 Strong Staff Connections:
DC Tony White and DBs coach Pat Surtain have been key in FSU’s rise here.
Matthews called Surtain “authentic” and someone he could “go to for anything.”
White earned praise for his honesty and developmental vision: “I’m looking to be pushed so I can reach my full potential.”
📈 The Buzz:
Matthews said this weekend’s OV was his best visit to FSU yet, noting how well the staff connected with both him and his family.
The Seminoles are firmly in the final four — and this visit may have been a game-changer.
📡 Auburn WR Commit Devin Carter Says FSU Visit “Made a Stamp” 📡

Florida State isn’t backing down in its pursuit of Auburn commit (and FSU legacy) Devin Carter — and after this weekend’s official visit, the ‘Noles are officially in the thick of the race.
The four-star wide receiver out of Cedar Grove (GA) spent the weekend in Tallahassee and came away impressed by Gus Malzahn’s offensive vision, Mike Norvell’s consistency, and the realness of the program.
“Florida State is real. Coach Norvell is real… This visit made a stamp for sure.”
🔥 Visit Highlights:
Carter connected with FSU commits like Jayvan Boggs and Elijah Moore, and said he’s “building a bond” with future teammates.
He praised new OC Gus Malzahn, calling him a “genius” and highlighting a playmaker-friendly system: “I’m going to be moving around in motion, jet sweeps, all of that.”
Longstanding ties with WR coach Tim Harris (his dad coached against Harris in high school) have only deepened since Harris joined the FSU staff.
🗣️ On the Environment:
“Coach Norvell screaming at 6 a.m. — but that’s the energy you need… When the players tell you the coaches never change — and you see it — that’s real.”
📆 What’s Next:
Carter says he’s taking all his OVs and “collecting data,” but this visit left a major impression.
He plans to return for FSU’s season opener vs. Alabama.
📊 Recruiting Battle:
Current Commit: Auburn
Top Contenders: FSU, Georgia, Florida
Position: WR
Ranking: Four-star (Top 300 nationally)
🛡️ FSU Puts Heat on South Carolina Commit J’Zavien Currence 🛡️
Florida State got its shot this weekend to flip J’Zavien Currence, a top-100 safety and South Carolina commit — and they may have made real progress.
The North Carolina native took his official visit to Tallahassee and left with high praise for the Seminoles’ consistency, coaching, and culture.
“Coach Norvell — he’s going to be the same character he’s been since my freshman year.”
🔥 Key Visit Notes:
Currence spent most of his time with Evan Cooper, Patrick Surtain, and Greg Moss — and was hosted by Earl Little Jr.
FSU envisions him as a versatile rover-type safety, capable of being the “quarterback of the defense.”
🤝 Mutual Respect:
“They say I’m different, and I believe them… I am who I say I am and they are who they say they are — and it fits.”
🌪️ Where Things Stand:
Still committed to South Carolina, but it’s now a clear two-school race: the Gamecocks vs. the ‘Noles.
Currence emphasized the importance of giving Norvell and FSU a real shot:
“If South Carolina wants me that bad, they wouldn’t have a problem with it… They’ll invest too.”
📍 The Vibe:
Currence said the people stood out most, and his conversations with players like Little reinforced how consistent and energized Norvell is — even at “6 A.M. losing his voice.”
📊 Recruiting Profile:
Ranking: Top-100 overall
Position: Safety (Rover)
Current Status: Committed to South Carolina — but very much listening
And that’s a wrap!
That’s a wrap on the diamond — but Florida State is far from finished.
With Cadeau already committed and momentum building across both sides of the ball, this summer’s recruiting cycle is shaping up to be special.
Linebackers, receivers, DBs, and trench monsters — the staff is casting a national net and reeling in serious interest.
We’ll be back with updates on upcoming visits, potential flips, and who’s next to join Tribe ’26.
Catch you tomorrow. Go Noles.
