🏀 Noles vs. Hokies: ACC Tournament Showdown Awaits
It's tournament time, Noles fans! Our No. 9 seed Florida State squad is gearing up for a crucial clash against No. 8 seed Virginia Tech, kicking off the second day of the 2024 ACC Tournament at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C.
Set your alarms for noon today, and let's cheer on our team together, either on ESPN or through the Learfield IMG College Radio Network.
Season Recap:
We're rolling into this matchup with a 16-15 record, having held our own in ACC play with a solid 10-10. The Hokies stand at 18-13, matching our conference record, making this game anyone's to win.
Head-to-Head:
This season, it's been a tale of home court advantage with each team seizing victory on their turf. We last faced off in Blacksburg on February 13th, where the Hokies edged us out 83-75.
But let's not forget our thrilling 77-74 win against them at our house back on January 6th. Historically, FSU leads the series 37-25 and has clinched the last two ACC Tournament meetings against Virginia Tech. It's time to extend that streak!
Looking Back:
Coach Leonard Hamilton has steered us to glory before, with the 2012 ACC Championship in the bag and the 2020 title awarded after the pandemic cut the tournament short. We've got the pedigree, team!
Noles to Watch:
Jamir Watkins is on fire this season, averaging 15.1 ppg and grabbing 5.9 rebounds. Remember his 26-point showcase last time against VT?
Baba Miller and Cam Corhen are making their presence felt on both ends, combining skill and agility in the frontcourt.
Jalen Warley and Darin Green Jr. are the backcourt duo we're counting on for those crucial plays and points.
What's Next:
Victory on Wednesday means a face-off against the No. 1 seed North Carolina in the quarterfinals. We've got the talent, the drive, and the spirit to make a deep run in this tournament.
👨⚖️ Legal Tussle Continues: FSU vs. ACC in Court
🙀🏛️ THE ACC ON TRIAL: FSU wants to be very clear on who their friends are in this battle. Obviously 10 partners decided to stab them in the back on January 12, 2024 in the "curative vote" that the ACC took to "commence material litigation" back in December. In the latest development of the legal saga between Florida State University (FSU) and the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), new filings have been made in the Leon County circuit court. As both parties grapple with complex legal maneuvers, here's a closer look at the ongoing dispute:
Discovery Stay and Legal Filings: The ACC has filed a motion to stay discovery, citing simultaneous legal battles in Mecklenburg and Leon County as the reason. Despite an agreement to stay discovery in North Carolina, FSU has resisted a similar pause in Leon County. The ACC argues that resolving threshold legal questions should precede further discovery, emphasizing the need for a balanced approach to the parties' interests.
Objections and Requests: Among the objections, the ACC aims to shield its annual operating budgets, tax returns, and detailed communications regarding negotiations and agreements with ESPN. Notably, discussions surrounding the ACC Network's competitiveness and the ACC's constitution amendments are under scrutiny. The filings also seek to limit disclosures related to the Grant of Rights agreements, Raycom Sports connections, and any communications regarding the lawsuit or CFP decisions affecting FSU.
Specific Objections Highlighted:
The ACC contests the need to disclose detailed financial records and internal communications.
The document reveals attempts to suppress discussions about ESPN agreements and the ACC Network's strategic decisions.
Raycom Sports and its ties to the Swofford family are contested points, along with decisions impacting FSU's participation in the College Football Playoff.
FSU's Stance: FSU's legal strategy includes challenging the ACC's efforts to limit discovery, arguing for transparency and accountability, especially concerning decisions that have directly impacted the university's athletic programs.
And that’s a wrap!
Whether it's on the field, in the pool, or standing up for our rights in court, the Seminole spirit never wavers.
Thanks for tuning in, and let's keep supporting our Noles as they continue to chase excellence in every arena.
Until next time, keep that garnet and gold flying high.
Go Noles!
