In a thrilling display of skill and strategy, Jamie Arnold spearheaded FSU's victory over Notre Dame with a performance for the ages at Dick Howser Stadium last Saturday. Our Noles soared to a 17-0 record, proudly standing as the only undefeated team in the country, and improved their ACC standing to a perfect 2-0.
Arnold, in a masterful outing, racked up 12 strikeouts, marking a personal best and pushing his season tally to an astonishing 44. Allowing just one run in 5.2 innings, he ended a 25.1-inning scoreless run, showcasing the grit and determination that defines FSU baseball. His ERA? An almost invisible 0.33.
The Seminoles kicked off strong with Jaime Ferrer's two-run homer in the first, setting a tone of dominance. Despite a Notre Dame run in the third, FSU's offense was relentless, adding critical runs in the fifth via a Jaxson West single and a James Tibbs sacrifice fly, sealing the deal on a well-earned victory.
The bullpen, featuring Andrew Armstrong, Noah Short, and Brennen Oxford, held down the fort impressively, with Oxford clinching the win under high pressure in the ninth inning.
Game Highlights:
Arnold’s Mastery: Striking out 12, Arnold not only showcased his skill but also his crucial role in keeping the Noles unbeaten.
Early Lead Secured: Ferrer's first-inning homer was not just a run; it was a statement - FSU was here to win.
Bullpen Brilliance: Our relievers showed just why FSU's pitching depth is unrivaled, closing out the game with poise and precision.
Noteworthy Numbers:
FSU’s Record: At 17-0, we're witnessing one of the best starts in program history, second only to the 2007 team's 23-0 record.
Home Run Streak: FSU has now homered in 12 consecutive games, tying for the fourth-longest streak in school history.
On-Base Streak: Cam Smith’s streak of reaching base ended at 27 games.
Looking Forward: The series finale against Notre Dame is up next, Sunday at 1:00 p.m., with RHP Conner Whittaker taking the mound for his first weekend rotation start of the season. It's a pivotal game, and FSU looks to capitalize on this momentum.

Yesterday at the Seminole Softball Complex, the No. 18 FSU softball team turned the tide with a stirring 4-2 victory against No. 4 Duke. In front of an enthusiastic home crowd, our Seminoles showcased their resilience, quickly recovering from a previous loss to dominate the field against one of the top teams in the country.
Early Offensive Explosion:
First Inning Fireworks: FSU didn't waste any time, jumping ahead with three runs. Beachum's leadoff single and strategic hits by Harding and Ross, including Ross's second-highest ranked fifth triple of the season, electrified the crowd early.
Torres’ RBI: Isa Torres joined the hit parade with a crucial double, marking her 20th RBI of the season.
Historic Performance:
Kalei Harding’s Milestone: Harding's 52nd career double not only added to the Noles' lead but also moved her to second all-time in FSU history for career doubles.
Pitching Prowess:
Makenna Reid’s Dominance: Reid was simply outstanding against Duke’s powerful offense, retiring 14 of 16 batters in the first five innings and ending the game with five strikeouts over seven innings, maintaining her undefeated record at 5-0 this season and 18-0 with the Seminoles.
Tense Moments:
Despite Duke’s efforts in the sixth inning to spark a comeback, Reid, re-entering the game, expertly limited their advance, securing the win with a flawless seventh inning.
Looking Forward: The series is set for a thrilling conclusion in tomorrow's rubber match at noon on ACCNX. It promises to be a clash worthy of the anticipation, with FSU aiming to solidify their status against a formidable Duke team.
