This past weekend at Vartabedian Field, our No. 18 FSU Softball team showcased why they're a force to be reckoned with in the ACC, turning their series against Pitt into a highlight reel of home runs, strategic plays, and record-setting moments.
Let's break down the action that had Seminole fans everywhere buzzing with excitement.
Sunday's Show of Force:
The day began with FSU's lineup firing on all cylinders, leading to a commanding 10-0 victory in just five innings. Kaley Mudge's leadoff triple quickly translated into runs, thanks to Jaysoni Beachum and Kalei Harding's timely hits.
The onslaught didn't stop there, with Harding, Amaya Ross, and Jahni Kerr all launching homers to secure a 5-0 lead in the first inning alone. By the fourth inning, FSU tallied 10 runs, marking the eighth time this season they've reached double digits.
Pitching was equally dominant, with Ashtyn Danley and Emma Wilson combining to allow just one hit across five innings, underlining a shutout performance that set the stage for the series finale.
Eveningβs Offensive Explosion:
The series finale under the lights saw the Seminoles not just completing the sweep but doing so in record-tying fashion with a 17-7 victory.
Mudge's leadoff home run set the tempo, and by the end of the fifth inning, FSU had amassed seven home runs, tying a program record.
Noteworthy was Mudge's first career multi-homer game, showcasing her growth and firepower.
The offense collectively tallied 40 runs on 39 hits over the weekend, including a staggering 15 home runs.
This marked the first time FSU scored 10 or more runs in each game of a three-game ACC series, and only the fourth instance in school history of achieving double digits in three consecutive games.
Looking Ahead:
As we turn our focus to the upcoming series against NC State at the Seminole Softball Complex, the momentum is firmly in our court.
This weekend was a testament to our team's depth, talent, and resilience, setting high expectations for the games to come.

This Sunday, the No. 5 Florida State beach volleyball team showcased their prowess and determination, sweeping through the CCSA Midseason Tournament and boosting their impressive season record to 19-2.
With back-to-back wins against top-20 ranked teams, the Seminoles have solidified their status as one of the elite programs in the country.
Thrilling Victory Over Grand Canyon:
The action-packed day began with a tense match against No. 18 Grand Canyon. FSU quickly asserted their dominance, taking an early 2-0 lead thanks to Caitlin Moon and Kaileigh Truslow's swift victory on court four and another win by the formidable duo of Anna Long and Alexis Durish.
However, the Lopes fought back, evening the score by claiming courts one and five. The tension peaked on court three, where Makenna Wolfe and Maddie Trusty clinched the match with a heart-stopping 15-13 win in the third set, showcasing the Seminoles' grit and teamwork.
Toppling No. 8 LSU:
The momentum continued as FSU faced off against the No. 8 ranked LSU Tigers. The Seminoles commanded an early lead across all courts, though Wolfe and Trusty faced a challenging three-set battle on court three, where LSU secured its only point of the dual.
The match's highlight came on court five, with Angeline Bergner and McKenna Flaherty securing a nail-biting 29-27 victory in the second set, further demonstrating FSU's depth and resilience under pressure.
Looking Ahead to Baton Rouge:
The Seminoles now set their sights on Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where they'll face a gauntlet of top-ranked teams, starting with No. 2 UCLA and No. 6 Cal on Friday.
The weekend will continue with matches against No. 3 Stanford on Saturday, and will culminate in a highly anticipated showdown against No. 1 USC on Sunday. This challenging slate of matches will not only test the Seminoles' mettle but also offer them the opportunity to make a statement on the national stage.

The No. 14 FSU men's tennis team faced a tough challenge at home, falling 4-1 to the No. 3 ranked Virginia Cavaliers. Despite the scoreline, the match was filled with fiercely contested battles, showcasing the Seminoles' tenacity.
The doubles point teetered on a knife-edge, with Virginia securing wins on Courts 1 and 2. The match featuring Alex Bulte and Jamie Connel remained unfinished, setting the stage for intense singles play.
Youcef Rihane and Jamie Connel fought hard in their singles matches but ultimately fell in straight sets. However, Antoine Cornut-Chauvinc, the No. 4 ranked player, continued his stellar unbeaten season, overcoming the country's 10th ranked player, Chris Rodesch, in a match that highlighted Cornut-Chauvinc's skill and determination.
With three matches extending to a third set, the tie's outcome hung in the balance until Virginia clinched the match on Court 6, leaving the contests of Loris Pourroy and Joshua Dous-Karpenschif unfinished.
Now standing at 14-5 (4-3 ACC), the Seminoles look ahead to road matches against Georgia Tech and Clemson.

In a high-scoring affair, No. 12 Florida State displayed remarkable power, launching five home runs in a narrow 14-12 loss to No. 3 Clemson. Despite the Seminoles' best efforts and a weekend total of 12 homers, Clemson's offense proved too much to contain.
James Tibbs was a standout, hitting his 9th and 10th homers of the year and safely reaching base in all five plate appearances. The sixth inning saw Cam Smith and Alex Lodise contribute two-run homers, while Marco Dinges added his second of the weekend in the ninth. Early on, Max Williams' two-run single and Dinges' RBI double sparked a five-run rally in both the second and sixth innings, showcasing FSU's tenacity.
Of Note:
Tibbs' performance marked his third multi-homer game of the season, continuing his impressive streak of power hitting.
FSU's series against Clemson highlighted the team's depth, with seven different players contributing to the 12 homers.
Tibbs becomes the first Seminole to hit at least 10 homers in three consecutive seasons since Mike McGee, demonstrating his significant impact on FSU's offense.
The weekend's scoring predominantly came via the long ball, with only two of FSU's 24 runs not resulting from homers.
Up Next: The Seminoles are set for a clash against No. 6 Florida on Tuesday at 121 Financial Ballpark in Jacksonville. Following a 12-8 victory in Gainesville earlier this season, FSU aims to replicate their success and secure another win against their rivals.

Florida State's Legacy Weekend not only honors the past but also keenly shapes the future of the program, bringing in a plethora of talent to Tallahassee.
This weekend was a masterclass in recruitment, as FSU's coaching staff, led by Coach Mike Norvell, and legendary Seminoles alumni showcased the university's rich tradition and bright future to prospective recruits.
Here's a deeper dive into the significant developments from a weekend that could very well define FSU's future rosters.
Defensive Gems Drawn to FSU's Culture
The defensive side of the ball saw promising developments, particularly with Myron Charles and Gregory Thomas, showcasing FSU's appeal to top defensive talents.
Charles's ongoing admiration for Coach Odell Haggins and the legacy of defensive excellence at FSU was further solidified through engaging conversations with FSU legends, notably with Braden Fiske.
Gregory Thomas's visit was equally impactful, as the discussions with FSU alumni like Akeem Dent gave him deeper insights into the program's ethos and development philosophy. Both recruits highlighted "family" as a distinguishing factor for FSU, reflecting the program's ability to foster a supportive and close-knit community.
Offensive Linemen Enthused by FSU's Approach
The offensive line recruits, including Ziyare Addison from Florida and Juan Gaston from Georgia, expressed their enthusiasm for the high-energy practices and the familial atmosphere fostered by Coach Alex Atkins.
Addison's remark that FSU is "in the driver seat" for his recruitment underscores the effectiveness of FSU's personalized and relationship-focused recruiting strategy.
The sentiments were echoed by Max Buchanan and Kaden Strayhorn, who noted the unique blend of intensity and warmth within the program, illustrating FSU's holistic appeal to recruits.
Skill Position Prospects Captivated
Caleb Cunningham, a highly coveted receiver, was struck by the unique spiritual component of his visit, highlighting a conversation with the team's pastor as a standout experience.
This aspect, combined with the focus on brotherhood and Coach Ron Dugans's meticulous coaching style, paints a picture of a program that values personal growth alongside athletic development.
Quarterback commit Tramell Jones Jr. also played a pivotal role during the weekend, working to persuade other recruits of FSU's vision, showcasing the active involvement of current commits in building future classes.
Linebackers and Linemen Eyeing Seminoles
Riley Pettijohn's return visit to FSU allowed him to witness the intense, fast-paced nature of Seminole practices firsthand, leaving a strong impression of FSU's commitment to excellence.
Coach Randy Shannon's impactful coaching style was highlighted, emphasizing the program's ability to attract and develop top linebacker talents.
On the offensive line, Kaden Strayhorn's offer during his visit signifies FSU's ongoing efforts to bolster its offensive front, underlining the strategic approach to recruiting at pivotal positions.
A Unifying Experience for Prospects
Legacy Weekend proved to be a unifying experience, blending FSU's storied past with its future aspirations.
The event facilitated meaningful interactions between current and former players and the next generation of Seminoles, reinforcing the program's foundational values of family, development, and competitiveness.
And thatβs a wrap!
From the softball diamond to the volleyball sand, the tennis courts to the golf greens, and the promising future painted by our recruiting endeavors, the spirit of the Seminoles shines brightly.
Together, we celebrate these achievements and look forward with anticipation to the successes yet to come.
