Final road trip. Big-time tests. Florida State Men’s Tennis heads back to the Tar Heel State to face No. 13 Duke (Friday, 5 PM) and North Carolina (Sunday, 12 PM).
🔥 Coming off two gritty 4–2 wins over No. 16 Clemson and Georgia Tech, the Noles are heating up at the right time.
🏅 Corey Craig (No. 14 nationally) dominated Clemson on Court 1 — 6-2, 6-1 — and remains unbeaten at home in ACC play with 9 ranked wins on the year.
💪 Jamie Connel delivered on Court 2 vs. GT, improving to 5–1 in ACC play with two top-10 road wins already on his resume.
🧱 Depth stepped up big:
Joshua Dous-Karpenschif: Clinched the win vs. Clemson, now 10–3 this spring
Erik Schiessl: Two wins last weekend, including a three-set clincher vs. Georgia Tech

Another wave of top talent rolled through Tallahassee this week — including a committed playmaker and two rising names — as FSU’s Tuesday practice gave recruits a look at the tempo, toughness, and teaching under Mike Norvell and his revamped staff.
💨 4⭐ RB Commit Amari Thomas
First practice visit since committing
Studied RB tempo and Gus Malzahn’s run-heavy offense
Loved Kam Davis: “It’s going to be hard to stop him.”
Locked in with FSU, but will take four OVs — Noles get the last one
📈 Fast-Rising WR Jaydon Dunbar (Thomas Co. Central, GA)
Impressed by tempo + WR drill work: “They take pride in their guys”
Noted FSU’s use of tall receivers like himself
“FSU’s definitely in my top 5” — eyeing an early official
Has a mystery leader 👀 (and it’s not Georgia)
🔒 3⭐ DB Sean Johnson (MD)
First trip to Tally, staying multiple days
Loved the energy, teaching, and connection between players and staff
Big praise for DBs coach Evan Cooper: “It’s more than football with him.”
Official visit set for June 13 — calls FSU “definitely one of my top schools”
🧲 Bottom Line: FSU is hitting the right notes — from scheme fits to culture — and staying firmly in the mix with major names in the 2025 and 2026 cycles.
🔐 Tribe27 Gets Another DB: Mekhi Williams Commits to FSU
BREAKING: Four-Star Safety Mekhi Williams (2027) has Committed to Florida State, he tells me for @On3Recruits
The 6’3 170 S from Ruskin, FL chose the Seminoles over Wake Forest, Colorado, & Liberty
“Nobody can be you, remember that. All the losses you took with a smile,
— Hayes Fawcett (@Hayesfawcett3)

Legacy Weekend delivered. Florida State landed a commitment from 2027 defensive back Mekhi Williams (Ruskin, FL) following his second campus visit this month.
🔑 Why it matters:
Williams becomes the second commit in FSU’s 2027 class, joining fellow DB Jaylen Scott
The 6’2.5” safety has been a longtime priority for new director of recruiting Devin Rispress, who offered him at Colorado and FAMU
Also building a strong bond with safeties coach Evan Cooper
📊 The numbers:
6 INTs + 35 tackles as a sophomore
76.1” wingspan | 4.64 40-yard dash
Dual-sport athlete: High jump (5'9.75), long jump (19'10.25), 200m (23.53)
🗣 Committed in-person in Tallahassee after back-to-back March visits. Tribe27 is building early — and Williams is locked in.
🧲 DBU Vibes: 3⭐ CB Sean Johnson Feels the FSU Energy
His first visit to Tallahassee might not be his last. 2026 DB Sean Johnson — the No. 35 cornerback nationally (per 247) — is soaking in a multi-day trip to FSU, and the Seminoles are making a major impression.
💬 “It was great,” Johnson said. “They’ve got something special going on… high energy, real brotherhood.”
🔍 What stood out:
Loved the intensity and competitiveness at practice
Noted the way Cooper and Surtain coach and care for their players
Praised the defensive back unity and leadership in the room
💡 On safeties coach Evan Cooper:
“He’s a really good dude who really cares. Wants to help me become a great player.”
🗓 Johnson will return for an official visit on June 13, joining a high-profile summer slate. He also has OV dates set with:
Penn State (May 16)
Wisconsin (May 31)
🌟 “Who wouldn’t want to go to Florida State? It’s DBU — Jalen Ramsey, Deion Sanders, Derwin James…”
🏃♂️ 4⭐ RB Jae Lamar Talks FSU, UGA & His Final Official
Florida State was one of the first Power Four programs to believe in Jae Lamar — and they’re staying in the race for the No. 9 running back in the 2025 class (per On3).
🔁 Lamar made the trip for Legacy Weekend — even though he arrived too late for practice, he’s planning to return this spring for a full session.
💬 “It’s real here… every time with Coach Norvell, Coach Gus, Coach YAC — it’s the same vibe. Real.”
🟡 Current picture:
Georgia is the leader (in-state pull, lifelong fan, deep culture fit)
FSU still in the mix, with the final official visit lined up for late June
Plans to commit shortly after that final trip
🔥 On Malzahn’s offense:
“Inventing the wildcat, running that ball — that’s all he likes to do.”
🤝 On FSU’s recruiting style:
“They’re not pressuring me. I can hit the head coach anytime. That’s crucial.”
🙏 Lamar says faith will guide his decision:
“I’m asking God to lead me into the right path.”
📍Next Steps:
Another visit to FSU this spring
Official visit to FSU in late June
Decision shortly after
And that’s a wrap!
Spring’s heating up — and so are the battles, the streaks, and the recruiting wins.
We’ll be back with more intel, highlights, and behind-the-scenes buzz soon.
Stay locked in. Stay loud. Go Noles. 🍢
