🏈🎙️ Norvell Reveals Key Spring Storylines 🎙️🏈
Florida State head coach Mike Norvell met with the media ahead of spring practice, outlining several major storylines for the 2026 season — including his return to playcalling, a potential quarterback battle, and a deep running back rotation.
🧠 Norvell Back to Calling Plays
After Gus Malzahn’s unexpected retirement, Norvell will return to in-game offensive playcalling, a role he held earlier in his career at both Memphis and Florida State.
WR coach Tim Harris Jr. has been promoted to offensive coordinator
Harris will help build game plans while Norvell handles playcalling
Norvell said improved support from the program’s new personnel department led by GM John Garrett and Taylor Edwards allows him to focus more directly on the offense again.
🏃 Running Back Room Loaded
Florida State enters spring with multiple backs expected to play.
Tre Wisner (Texas transfer) joins returning backs Ousmane Kromah and Samuel Singleton
Gemari Sands (FAU transfer) adds depth
Coaches would like a lead back to emerge, but the expectation is that multiple players will carry the load.
The offense could also feature more two-back sets (21 personnel) to create mismatches.
🎯 Quarterback Competition
The starting quarterback job will be open heading into spring.
Ashton Daniels: Experienced transfer expected to compete for the job
Kevin Sperry: Redshirt freshman who impressed coaches last season
Norvell emphasized the position will be decided by performance during spring practice.
⭐ Duce Robinson Drawing Praise
Returning star receiver Duce Robinson continues to generate major internal buzz.
1,081 receiving yards in 2025 (ACC leader)
19.3 yards per catch
Norvell praised Robinson’s leadership, saying “this football team has his DNA.”
🧠 Why It Matters: With spring practice beginning Monday, playcalling changes, quarterback competition, and a crowded running back room will be some of the biggest storylines shaping Florida State’s 2026 season.
🥍🏠 Noles Host No. 20 Virginia Sunday 🏠🥍
Florida State returns home Sunday as the Seminoles host No. 20 Virginia at the Seminole Lacrosse Complex.
