🏆 This Week in Garnet & Gold 🏆

  1. ⚾ Baseball: Coast‑to‑coast résumé wins, a stumble, then a thunder‑clap walk‑off to close the regular season.

  2. 🥎 Softball: Fifteen innings, eighteen runs, zero drama — Regional final on home dirt (again).

  3. ⛳ Golf: Men steam‑roll Tallahassee Regional; Women slingshot 12 spots at NCAAs while Ting & Woad chase national POY.

  4. 🏃‍♂️ Track & Field: Seven ACC golds, two MVPs, and a freshman WR who just posted 44.38 in the 400 m.

  5. 🔁 Recruiting: Five‑stars booking June flights, trenches loading, and a legacy corner eyeing Bama weekend.

⚾ Road Trip Redemption, Tar‑Heel Turbulence, and One Heroic Finale ⚾

Florida State opened the week by bagging a 5‑1 rubber‑match win at Cal, riding freshman lefty Wes Mendes’ 5 IP, 1 ER and a wipe‑out bullpen to finish 13‑6 on the road slate and 36‑11 overall. Cal Fisher doubled twice; the staff surrendered just eight runs all series.

Back home, the top‑5 showdown with No. 4 UNC turned into a roller‑coaster:

  • Thursday: UNC ace Jake Knapp spun a complete‑game 8‑3 Tar Heel win despite Alex Lodise’s 17th bomb.

  • Friday: The Heels hammered an 11‑1 run‑rule, snapping FSU’s series win streak and setting Howser murmuring.

  • Saturday: Enter clutch king Myles Bailey — three‑run first‑inning jack plus an 8th‑inning go‑ahead single — as the Noles scratched a 5‑4 walk‑off to lock the ACC tourney double‑bye at 37‑13 (17‑10 ACC).

Stat of the Week: FSU finishes the regular season with 98 home runs, second‑most nationally and just three shy of the 1997 program record.

🥎 Regional Rampage — Supers Ticket Pending 🥎

Game 1 (Fri): 10‑1 (5 inn.) vs. Robert Morris — Isa Torres tripled on the first pitch, Jahni Kerr’s two‑run double sparked a six‑spot in the 3rd, and freshman hurler Ashtyn Danley (12‑1, 1.76 ERA) closed the door.

Game 2 (Sat): 8‑0 (6 inn.) vs. USF — Amaya Ross detonated two tanks, Danley surrendered one hit in five frames, and Shelby McKenzie’s two‑run blast invoked the run rule. FSU has now won 47 of its last 50 regional innings.

Hardware keeps piling up: seven Noles named NFCA All‑Region, including First‑Teamers Torres (.447) and Danley (dual‑threat dominance).

What’s next: One win Sunday sends Team 42 to its ninth straight Super Regional. Expect Danley and Kathryn Sandercock 2.0 (Julia Apsel) to split circle duty if a second game is needed.

⛳ Clanton’s Home‑Course Clinic & Ting/Woad’s NCAA Climb ⛳

Men

Hosting at Seminole Legacy, the No. 11 Noles went 29‑under to win by 18, snagging the program’s fifth straight NCAA finals berth. Luke Clanton shot 66‑66‑68 (‑16) for medalist honors and became a Haskins Award finalist the same week. Tyler Weaver (‑8) and Gray Albright (‑7) joined him in the top‑10.

Women

At Omni La Costa, the No. 2 squad fought from T‑16 to T‑4 thanks to Mirabel Ting’s bogey‑free 69 and Lottie Woad’s closing birdie barrage. Both were announced as two of three national POY finalists before the opening tee shot — the first teammates to share that honor in a decade.

Coach Amy Bond (ACC COY, 26 career titles) called the move “the best round of gritty golf I’ve coached.” Top‑15 after Sunday advances; top‑8 after Monday hits match play.

🏃‍♂️ Seven Golds, Two MVPs, and a 44.38 Freshman Shockwave 🏃‍♀️

Florida State left the ACC Outdoor Championships with seven gold medals and MVP trophies for Kyvon Tatham (23 pts, triple‑jump gold) and sprinter Shenese Walker (100 m 10.99 MR, 200 m 22.72). But the headline was dual‑sport freshman Micahi Danzy: 44.38 400 m, obliterating Chris Osborne’s 2007 record and ranking No. 3 nationally this season.

Both 4×100 m relays struck gold; ten more Noles qualified for the NCAA East Prelims (May 28‑31, Jacksonville).
