The Noles baseball team bounced back with a 15-4 mercy-rule victory over Pitt late Sunday afternoon, highlighted by a massive eight-run first inning and standout performances from Cam Smith and Jordan Williams.

🏟️ Seminoles Drop Series to Pitt Following Weather Delay 🏟️
Florida State's baseball conceded the weekend series with a 9-7 defeat to Pittsburgh on Sunday, marking Pitt’s first ACC series victory of 2024.

Carson Dorsey's start was cut short after Pittsburgh capitalized on his difficulties, highlighted by Justin Fogel's three-run homer in the first inning. Dorsey's day ended in the second inning after surrendering four runs, with Brennen Oxford taking over to stabilize the game early on.

The Seminoles faced additional adversity when Jaime Ferrer was forced out of the game in the second inning due to a wrist injury aggravated by a diving catch attempt.

FSU's offense tried to mount a comeback, ignited by James Tibbs's two-run homer, his 20th of the season. Later, Cam Smith's RBI double and subsequent run contributions from Daniel Cantu and Max Williams brought the Seminoles closer after the game resumed on Sunday following a weather delay.

The continuation saw FSU reduce the deficit to a single run before Pittsburgh widened the gap again. Fogel's second home run of the day was a key blow in extending Pitt's lead.
🏁 Series Finale
In a final push, FSU saw back-to-back homers from Tibbs and Smith in the ninth inning, but it wasn't enough. Phil Fox secured the win for Pittsburgh, closing the game and ensuring a series victory for the Panthers.
The series would quickly continue with Game 3 starting just 45 minutes later.

After a challenging first two games of the series, Florida State baseball (37-12, 15-11 ACC) concluded their matchup against Pitt (23-26, 8-19 ACC) with a resounding 15-4 victory, securing a win in eight innings due to the mercy rule.
🔥 Explosive Start Fuels FSU
The game opened with an offensive outburst, as FSU scored eight runs in the first inning, their highest in a single inning this season. Cam Smith ignited this rally with a home run and continued his impressive performance throughout the game, finishing with three hits and five RBIs. Jordan Williams also stood out, stealing four bases, the most by a Seminole in a single game since 1997.

⚾ Consistent Pressure at the Plate
Every starter in FSU's lineup reached base at least once, with six players driving in runs. The team's collective effort produced fifteen runs, highlighted by multi-hit games from five starters.
🏅 Pitching Highlights
Andrew Armstrong started on the mound, contributing four strong innings and throwing a season-high 83 pitches. FSU's bullpen, including Brady Louck and Yoel Tejeda Jr., helped close out the game effectively, maintaining the lead and securing the win.
📅 Looking Ahead
FSU's next challenge is a midweek, non-conference game against Stetson on Tuesday, marking their final such matchup of the 2024 regular season. This game is set for a 5:00 p.m. start and will be streamed on ESPN+.

Following an impressive season with a 43-14 record and finishing as the runner-up in both the ACC regular season and tournament, Florida State softball team has secured the No. 15 national seed for the NCAA Tournament. They will begin their quest for the championship at home in the Tallahassee Regional.
🔥 Opening Matchup Against Chattanooga
The Seminoles are set to open their postseason play against Chattanooga on Friday at 4:30 p.m., broadcast on the ACC Network. The Mocs, who also had a strong season with a 42-14 record, will provide the first challenge in FSU’s regional bracket.
⚾ Regional Competition Details
In addition to facing Chattanooga, the Tallahassee Regional will feature Auburn (27-19-1) and UCF (30-23), who will compete against each other on Friday at 2 p.m., with coverage on ESPNU. This regional lineup promises a weekend of competitive softball.
🏆 Path to the Super Regionals
Looking ahead, FSU is paired with the No. 2 national seed, Oklahoma, for a potential matchup in the Super Regional round. This means if both FSU and Oklahoma win their respective regionals, the Seminoles will travel to Norman, Oklahoma, for what could be a highly anticipated contest.

Jeremiah Davis repeated as the Men's Field MVP, amassing 20 points with victories in both the long jump and triple jump, showcasing his remarkable athletic prowess.
Dajaz DeFrand shined in the sprints, winning the women's 100-meter and 200-meter events and setting a new ACC meet record in the 100-meter prelims, underscoring her exceptional speed and consistency.

FSU athletes took home a total of 13 medals, including four individual golds by Davis and DeFrand. Ismael Kone captured gold in the 100 meters with a swift 10.25-second finish, adding to the team's impressive medal haul. The men's 4x100 relay team also claimed victory, contributing to the Seminoles' strong performance throughout the meet.

The championship was marked by numerous lifetime and season-best performances from FSU athletes, signaling strong preparations and peak form. Tyson Williams secured his first career ACC gold medal in the 110 hurdles with a record time, demonstrating his emergence as a top hurdler.

The FSU men's team finished fourth overall, while the women's team secured fifth place, both demonstrating competitive spirit and resilience across various events. These performances have set the stage for the upcoming NCAA East Region Championships in Lexington, Kentucky, where qualified Seminoles will aim to extend their season of success.

Florida State football is making significant strides in the recruitment of five-star offensive lineman Josh Petty. After his first visit to FSU this spring, Petty has scheduled an official visit for the June 21 weekend, highlighting his strong interest in the program.

Ranked as the No. 21 prospect nationally and No. 2 at his position, Petty's relationship with Coach Atkins stands out as particularly influential. "He is very smart and understands how to develop talent," Petty said of Atkins, highlighting the importance of personal development in his decision-making process.
🔍 Recruitment Prediction and Official Visits
Steve Wiltfong of On3 has predicted that Petty is likely to commit to Florida State, with a 60 percent confidence level. This prediction underscores FSU's strong positioning in Petty's recruitment process. Besides FSU, Petty plans to visit other top programs like Georgia Tech, Tennessee, Clemson, Auburn, Oregon, and Stanford, giving each an opportunity to showcase their offerings.
