🏹 Welcome to The Chief Brief! 🏹

Happy Thursday, Seminole!

Championship bids, recruiting momentum, and a regular season finale with serious fireworks — this one’s stacked.

Here’s what we’ve got on deck:

FSU Men’s Golf dominates the NCAA Regional as Luke Clanton breaks records and the Noles head west to Carlsbad.

🥎 Isa Torres is a USA Softball POY Top 10 Finalist, crushing it at the plate and locking down shortstop.

🥍 Lacrosse coach MacKenzie Plaskey graduates from a national leadership program, earning high praise off the field.

No. 2 Baseball hosts No. 4 UNC in a top-5 showdown at Howser — with themed nights, giveaways, and serious seeding stakes.

🏃‍♀️ Track & Field gears up for the ACC Championships with 44 athletes and multiple title threats on both sides.

🏈 Five-star LB Xavier Griffin sets FSU as his final official visit, giving Norvell a huge shot at flipping a top-10 national talent.

🦍 Legacy OT Aaron Thomas includes FSU in his Top 5, with a June 6 visit locked in — and his parents' alma mater very much in the mix.

Let’s get into it. 👇

A home warranty plan could save you thousands in repairs

Did you know replacing your HVAC could cost more than $10,000? Considering normal wear and tear on items such as your water heater and A/C aren’t covered by most home insurance policies, a home warranty could be a smart move. These plans help pay for the repair and replacement costs when covered systems and appliances stop working or break down. For a small monthly payment, you can protect your home without worrying about a broken A/C in the middle of summer.

Regional Domination: FSU Golf Cruises to NCAA Championship

Call it a wire-to-wire masterclass.

No. 11 Florida State men’s golf steamrolled the NCAA Tallahassee Regional, winning by 9 strokes and finishing 29-under overall — good for the program’s second-ever regional title. The Seminoles are now headed west for their fifth-straight trip to the NCAA Championship, held May 23–28 in Carlsbad, CA.

🔥 Luke Clanton made history, becoming FSU’s first-ever two-time NCAA Regional individual champ after carding 15-under (201) — breaking the Seminole Legacy course record by one stroke. It’s his fourth win of the year and eighth of his career.

🏌️‍♂️ Gray Albright closed out his career at home in style, finishing 6th at 7-under.
📈 Tyler Weaver followed closely behind in 7th after a final-round 69.
📊 Jack Bigham (T-23) and Carson Brewer (T-27) rounded out the lineup.

🥎 Top 10: Isa Torres Earns USA Softball POY Finalist Nod 🥎

Add another accolade to Isa Torres’ breakout season.

FSU’s leadoff star was named a Top 10 Finalist for the USA Softball Player of the Year on Wednesday — marking the second straight year a Seminole has made the cut, following Jaysoni Beachum in 2023.

And the numbers? Ridiculous.

🔥 Torres is slashing .447 / 8 HR / 44 RBI, with 88 hits (3rd nationally) — already fifth-most in a single season in FSU history.
💪 Against top-25 teams, she’s hitting .438 — the highest mark of any Player of the Year finalist.
📈 She’s recorded a hit in 47 of 55 games and reached base in 51.
🧱 Plus, she’s locked down shortstop with a .961 fielding percentage and endless web gems.

🥍 Plaskey Graduates from National Coaching Program 🥍

Big congrats to FSU lacrosse associate head coach MacKenzie Plaskey, who just graduated from the inaugural IWLCA Aspire Program — a prestigious professional development initiative aimed at elevating the next generation of leaders in women’s lacrosse.

Plaskey was one of just 17 coaches nationally selected — and the only Division I associate head coach to complete the program.

Over nine months, she participated in a hybrid curriculum blending virtual coursework, in-person sessions, mentorship, and leadership training — all designed to sharpen professional skills and foster growth across the collegiate coaching landscape.

👏 “The Aspire program did that and more,” said IWLCA President Kelly Gallagher. “We’re proud of what this first cohort accomplished.”

Top-5 Showdown: FSU Baseball Hosts UNC to Close Regular Season

It’s a heavyweight clash to wrap the regular season.

No. 2 Florida State hosts No. 4 North Carolina in a pivotal three-game series from May 15–17 at Dick Howser Stadium — with major ACC and national seeding implications on the line.

🏃‍♀️ FSU Track & Field Heads to ACC Championships 🏃‍♂️

🏈 5⭐ Flip Watch: Top LB Xavier Griffin Sets FSU Official Visit 🏈

Florida State is firmly in the hunt for the nation’s top linebacker.

Xavier Griffin, the No. 8 overall player and No. 1 LB in the 2026 class (per 247Sports), has officially decommitted from USC — and FSU just landed his final official visit of the summer: June 15–17.

Griffin will also visit:

  • Ohio State (May 30–June 1)

  • Alabama (June 6–8)

  • Texas (June 13–15)

But his visit to Tallahassee will close out the slate — a prime opportunity for Norvell and linebackers coach John Papuchis, both of whom have cultivated a long-term relationship with Griffin since offering him in 2023.

💬 “I love Coach Norvell’s energy and who he is as a man,” Griffin said. “They’ve been consistent with me… they’re hungry to have a great season.”

🦍 Legacy Alert: 4⭐ OT Aaron Thomas Includes FSU in Top 5 🦍

The trenches are always a priority — and Florida State is still in the thick of it for one of the best in the 2025 class.

Aaron Thomas, a 6’6”, 300-pound offensive tackle out of Phoenix, has announced his Top 5:
FSU, Ohio State, Texas, Texas A&M, and Washington.

Thomas, a legacy recruit, is set to officially visit Florida State on June 6.

💬 “Both of my parents graduated from there and my dad played o-line at FSU,” he told On3. “That definitely means something to me… Coach Hand has a good track record and I think he’d help me develop quickly.”

🔑 Official Visit Schedule:
• Washington — completed in April
• Ohio State — May 30
Florida State — June 6
• Texas — June 13
• Texas A&M — June 20

And that’s a wrap!

That’s a wrap on today’s Brief — but the postseason buzz is just getting started.

From Carlsbad fairways to Winston-Salem lanes and back to Tallahassee’s diamond, the Noles are chasing trophies and top talent. If June delivers what May’s teasing… buckle up.

Catch you back here tomorrow with more Garnet & Gold fire. 🔥
