In the letter, FSU cites NCAA pausing NIL investigation into rival UF
— Ross Dellenger (@RossDellenger)
6:22 PM • May 17, 2024
Overview: Florida State University has petitioned the NCAA's penalties related to NIL (Name, Image, Likeness) recruiting violations. This follows Florida joining a multi-state case against the NCAA's enforcement of its NIL rules.
Background:
Initial Filing: Tennessee and Virginia were first to file an antitrust suit against the NCAA, causing a pause in NIL-related cases.
FSU's Involvement: FSU's penalties stem from the recruitment of Amarius Mims in 2022, resulting in a three-game suspension for OC Alex Atkins, scholarship restrictions, and more.
FSU's Stance:
Petition Details: FSU agrees to serve probation and suspend Atkins but contests other penalties including fines and scholarship restrictions.
Athletic Director's Comment: Michael Alford mentioned the case is out of his hands during the ACC Spring Meetings.
Key Quote: "FSU should not be the only institution penalized simply because it was first in the queue..."
And that’s a wrap!
