Agonizingly close.
Florida State Men’s Golf finished ninth at the 2025 NCAA Championship Finals on Monday — just one stroke shy of advancing to match play. The Noles wrapped up the four-round tournament at 12-over (1,164), missing the top-8 cut line by the slimmest of margins.
🎯 Final Round Highlights:
• Carson Brewer led FSU with a 71, closing strong with back-to-back birdies and finishing T-22 at 1-over (289)
• Gray Albright, in his final round as a Seminole, carded his best round of the tournament with a 71, finishing +8 (296)
• Luke Clanton also finished at 1-over (289) after a consistent week
• Tyler Weaver shot 293 overall (+5)
🏌️♂️ Albright’s Accolades:
• 2025 Jones Cup Champion
• 3 top-10 finishes this season
• Ranked No. 23 in PGA TOUR U — earns immediate status on PGA TOUR Americas, beginning July 3–6 at the Explore NB Open
• Also earns exempt status to Second Stage of 2025 PGA TOUR Q-School
It’s a brutal finish for a loaded FSU squad — but the foundation is strong and the pro future is already underway for key Noles.
🧱 4⭐ DT Kendall Guervil Sets FSU OV, Talks Relationships & Rise in Recruitment 🧱

A once unlikely recruitment is heating up fast for the Noles.
Florida State has gained serious ground with Fort Myers (FL) defensive tackle Kendall Guervil, a 6’4.5”, 315-pound four-star who now lists FSU among his top contenders. After a spring visit flipped the momentum, Guervil is set to take his first official visit of the summer to Tallahassee this weekend — bumping Alabama in the process.
🔥 Why FSU’s in the Mix:
• Weekly talks with DL coach Terrance Knighton (“coach TKnight”) have solidified the bond
• Strong connection with Mike Norvell — “a great coach, great guy… amazing guy in general”
• “It’s definitely somewhere I would consider being at,” Guervil said of FSU
🏈 Who Else Is In It:
• Florida and Texas are making the most noise, with long-standing recruitment efforts
• Georgia is also scheduled for an OV in June
• Guervil plans to take gameday visits and commit in December during the Early Signing Period
🔍 Scouting Snapshot (via 247’s Andrew Ivins):
• “Athletic DT with mass and quickness… 6-4, 310+ with flexibility and power”
• Known for initiating contact, heavy bull rush, and pursuit ability
• “NFL ceiling” if he develops consistency and technique
Ranked No. 77 overall and the No. 12 DL in the 2026 class, Guervil’s upside is massive — and FSU has a real shot to make a lasting impression this weekend.
⚔️ 5⭐ EDGE Tristian Givens Locks In FSU Official Visit, Sets Summer Commitment ⚔️
Tennessee made a massive impression on blue-chip EDGE Tristian Givens, who returned to Rocky Top for 865 Live over the weekend. Givens has three official visits on tap as a decision nears🍊
"I've always gotten that home feeling. They have always been the top dog."

A top-25 national prospect is heading to Tallahassee.
Tristian Givens, a 6’4”, 215-pound edge rusher out of Columbus (GA) Carver, is one of the most coveted defenders in the 2026 class — ranked No. 23 overall, No. 3 EDGE, and No. 4 in Georgia by 247Sports.
He’s down to a final four of Florida State, Texas A&M, Tennessee, and USC, and he’ll make a decision this summer after taking official visits to each program.
📆 Visit Lineup:
• FSU – June 6 (confirmed and highly anticipated)
• Tennessee – June 13
• Texas A&M – June 20
• USC – TBD
🔥 Where Things Stand:
• FSU was playing from behind early but is surging into contention
• Texas A&M is the perceived leader, with Tennessee also right there
• FSU staff views the June 6 visit as pivotal and plans to “lay out the red carpet”
🎯 Scouting Snapshot (via Andrew Ivins, 247Sports):
• Former WR turned edge — explosiveness + urgency from two- and three-point stances
• Excellent speed-to-power conversion, high motor, and elite closing burst
• Needs technical refinement and time to bulk up — but the NFL upside is very real
This one’s far from over — and the Noles are pushing hard to make a late statement.

The summer push starts now.
Florida State is opening its first major official visit weekend of the cycle (May 30–June 1) with a high-upside, high-priority group — headlined by blue-chip linemen, a defensive tackle the staff bumped Alabama to land, and a few flip candidates from SEC rivals.
Let’s break down who’s coming to Tallahassee this weekend:
👷♂️ 4⭐ OL Samuel Roseborough (Clearwater, FL)
• 6’5”, 285 lbs | Longtime FSU target with deep ties to OL coach Herb Hand
• Official visit tour includes Texas, LSU, Ohio State, and Texas A&M
• This is FSU’s first shot to make a statement in a tightly contested race
📐 4⭐ OT Johnnie Jones (North Palm Beach, FL)
• 6’6”, 300 lbs | Massive frame + 7’1” wingspan = prototypical left tackle
• Previously visited Ole Miss and UCLA; Penn State and Vandy up next
• FSU wasn’t in the mix until now — but an OV means they’ve got a chance
🧱 4⭐ DL Kendall Guervil (Fort Myers, FL)
• 6’4.5”, 315 lbs | Athletic interior disruptor and FSU’s highest-priority DL this weekend
• Recently bumped Bama for this OV — Norvell + Knighton have built serious trust
• Texas, Florida, Georgia, and Miami are also in the race
🔁 3⭐ IOL Jakobe Green (Niceville, FL | Miss State commit)
• Just offered this month — but already scheduling an OV shows interest is mutual
• Local lineman who could fill a key interior role if FSU can flip him from the Bulldogs
⚡ 3⭐ WR Camden Capehart (Texas | Miss State commit)
• 10.14 100m dash | Two-time Texas state sprint champ
• Also posted 1,379 yards and 25 TDs last season on 24.6 YPR
• Gus Malzahn + Tim Harris Jr. love speed — and this kid has it in spades
🔒 3⭐ DB Traeviss Stevenson (Georgia | GT commit)
• Rapid riser on FSU’s DB board after spring evals
• Has offers from Auburn, Georgia, Texas — but FSU gets the first OV
• Staff sees him as one of the most underrated athletes in the class
🧠 Outlook:
This weekend isn’t just a warm-up — it’s a make-a-move moment for the Noles. Between key battles in the trenches and high-upside flips, FSU’s staff has laid the groundwork. Now it’s time to close the gap — or create separation.
And that’s a wrap!
That’s all for today’s edition of The Chief Brief.
As postseason play kicks off and recruiting heats up, Florida State is in the thick of it on every front — from hosting regionals to hosting five-stars. One swing, one visit, one moment can shift everything. Buckle up.
Catch you tomorrow with more headlines from Garnet & Gold country.
