Max Williams Walk-Off Lifts No. 5 FSU Over No. 3 Clemson in Extra-Inning Thriller

It took two celebrations and 11 innings, but the Cardiac ‘Noles came through in dramatic fashion.

Final: No. 5 FSU 6, No. 3 Clemson 5
With two runners on in the 11th and the score tied, Max Williams ripped a walk-off single to left — and after a tense review confirmed Nathan Cmeyla beat the tag at home, Howser Stadium exploded all over again.

Williams, who also tied the game with a solo shot in the 10th, finished 3-for-6 with 2 RBI, a critical throw to third, and an instant classic of a performance.

🧨 Other Big Performers:

  • Chase Williams: 4-for-5, 2 RBI

  • Cal Fisher: 3-for-5, HR

  • Jamie Arnold: 6 IP, 1 ER, 3 H, 7 K

  • Peyton Prescott: Scoreless 11th, improves to 4-0

Down 4-2 in the 9th, FSU rallied to tie it with two outs thanks to James Hankerson and Gage Harrelson. Then, with the Tigers retaking the lead in the 10th, Max Williams launched a game-tying homer and the game-winner in the 11th.

Head coach Link Jarrett called it, “as well as the game can be played.”

🥎 Noles Clinch ACC Title with Blowout Win at VT 🥎

Mission accomplished in Blacksburg.
No. 9 Florida State locked up its 15th ACC Regular Season Championship Friday night with a dominant 13–4 win over No. 15 Virginia Tech on the road.

What This Means:

  • FSU improves to 43–7 overall, 17–2 in ACC play

  • Earns the No. 1 seed in next week’s ACC Tournament

  • Now 37–20 all-time vs. the Hokies, with 14 straight wins in Blacksburg

Friday Night Highlights:

  • 💥 Michaela Edenfield crushed her 8th HR of the season

  • 💣 Jahni Kerr added her 8th as well — solo shot in the 7th

  • 🧹 Amaya Ross had a season-high 4 RBI, including a two-run single and sac fly

  • 💪 Ashtyn Danley went the distance: 7 IP, 5 K, just 1 BB — now 11–1 on the year

FSU racked up 13 runs on 12 hits, with big-time two-out execution nearly every inning.

The series continues Saturday at 4 PM on ACCNX as the Noles aim to keep the momentum rolling into the postseason.

🔁 Portal Watch: Gavin Sawchuk Visits FSU, Eyes Quick Decision 🔁

Florida State may be closing in on another key offensive weapon from the portal — and it’s a name Nole fans remember well.

Former Oklahoma running back Gavin Sawchuk is fresh off a visit to Tallahassee and says he’s looking to make a decision quickly. 👀

The Buzz:

  • FSU was the first school to contact Sawchuk after he entered the portal.

  • He rushed for 744 yards and 9 TDs in 2023, averaging 6.2 yards per carry.

  • He torched FSU for 100 yards and a TD in the 2022 Cheez-It Bowl as a freshman.

  • A quad injury limited him in 2024, but he still holds two years of eligibility.

Why FSU Makes Sense:

  • Sawchuk loves the run-heavy offense under new OC Gus Malzahn — especially their emphasis on inside zone, his favorite scheme.

  • Florida weather, facilities, and the staff’s persistence made a strong impression.

  • RBs coach David Johnson has already built a great rapport during the visit.

“They were first to the door,” Sawchuk said. “It’s been great reconnecting with the staff and seeing it all in person.”

FSU already has a deep RB room (Roydell Williams, Caziah Holmes, Kam Davis, and incoming freshman Ousmane Kromah), but no clear-cut starter — and Norvell says he’s open to adding a game-changer if it’s the right fit.

👉 Sawchuk is now expected to visit West Virginia next, but with an On3 prediction already in FSU’s favor, all eyes are on whether that trip even happens.

🏖️ Noles Knock Off LBSU to Advance to NCAA Quarterfinals 🏖️

🎾 FSU Men’s Tennis Sweeps Samford in NCAA Opener 🎾

The No. 20 Florida State men’s tennis team came out swinging and never looked back — blanking Samford 4–0 to cruise into the second round of the NCAA Tournament for a seventh straight season.

How It Happened:

  • 🧹 Doubles Dominance:

    • Connell/Sebesta (Court 2) win 6–1

    • Rihane/Dous-Karpenschif (Court 1) seal the doubles point with a 6–2 win in their debut

  • 💪 Corey Craig, ranked No. 14 nationally, delivered a 6–0, 6–2 beatdown on Court 1

  • 🔥 Erik Schiessl shook off a first-set loss and stormed back with 6–2, 6–1 sets to clinch the sweep

FSU is now 16–0 vs. teams outside the top 25 and has recorded 10 sweeps this season. The Noles will face South Carolina or VCU in Saturday’s second round (10 a.m. ET).

Ting, Woad & Bond Sweep ACC Honors for Record-Breaking FSU Women’s Golf Season

The awards keep rolling in for Florida State Women’s Golf, and this latest trio is as elite as it gets.

  • 🏆 Amy Bond: ACC Coach of the Year (2nd career honor)

  • 🏌️‍♀️ Mirabel Ting: ACC Golfer of the Year, five wins on the season

  • 🌟 Ting & Lottie Woad: Both named All-ACC for the second year in a row

The No. 3-ranked Noles just completed a history-making campaign:

  • 🥇 First-ever ACC Championship

  • 💪 Tied for most team titles (6) in the country

  • 🔥 Seven top-3 finishes, No. 1 seed in NCAA Lexington Regional

Ting (NCAA No. 1, WAGR No. 2) leads all Division I golfers in individual wins (5), while Woad (WAGR No. 1, NCAA No. 2) boasts two victories and eight top-three finishes this season — and the duo is a combined 96 strokes under par in 2025.

Bond, now in her 15th year as head coach, called the recognition “humbling” and credited the players and staff who’ve believed in the vision from day one.

And that’s a wrap!

From title-clinching wins to walk-off chaos at Howser, this week brought the heat — and the postseason’s just getting started.

We’ll be tracking softball’s run at the ACC Tourney, baseball’s push for a top regional seed, and portal movement as FSU builds for another big fall.
