Florida State's redshirt junior Jared Verse has been named a semifinalist for the prestigious Lott IMPACT Trophy, recognizing his outstanding contributions both on and off the field.
Verse's impressive stats include 26 tackles, 4.5 sacks, and 6.5 tackles for loss, significantly contributing to FSU's No. 4 national ranking and their perfect 9-0 record. He leads FSU with 13.5 career sacks and 23.5 tackles for loss, showcasing his defensive prowess.
Nationally, Verse stands out among active players with 1.12 tackles for loss per game and 0.64 sacks per game in his FBS career. His performance against Virginia Tech and Wake Forest, where he tied his career-high with 2.0 sacks, highlights his impact on the game.
In FSU's victory over Syracuse, Verse showcased his versatility with a fumble recovery and an 11-yard return. His season-best five tackles against No. 16 Duke further underline his defensive capabilities.
Recognized as a 2022 First Team All-American, Verse is also in contention for the Lombardi Award and was on preseason watch lists for several other prestigious awards.
The Lott IMPACT Trophy, celebrating its 20th year, honors a student-athlete who exemplifies the qualities of NFL legend Ronnie Lott, including Integrity, Maturity, Performance, Academics, Community, and Tenacity.

FSU Welcomes Four-Star DB Jamari Howard to the Fold
Florida State's football program received a significant boost with the commitment of Jamari Howard, a highly-touted four-star defensive back from Miami Norland. Howard, who stands at an impressive 6-foot-2 and weighs 175 pounds, chose the Seminoles over other top-tier programs, including Florida, Maryland, Rutgers, and Michigan State.
The decision to join FSU was influenced by the team's dynamic start to the season, particularly their win over LSU. Howard felt a strong sense of belonging and prioritization from FSU's coaching staff, which played a crucial role in his commitment. He has been in regular communication with multiple coaches, including head coach Mike Norvell, highlighting the program's vested interest in his development.
Rated as the No. 91 prospect nationally and the No. 7 cornerback, Howard brings a combination of size, speed, and ball skills that make him a formidable addition to the Seminoles' defense. His commitment is seen as a potential game-changer for FSU, with comparisons being drawn to FSU great Jalen Ramsey.
Howard's early enrollment in January is highly anticipated, as he is eager to integrate with the team and experience college-level play. FSU fans are equally excited to see him in action, especially given his potential to make a significant impact from the outset. His arrival in Tallahassee is a promising sign for the Seminoles' defensive future. ππ
