FSU's Clanton Seals Semifinal Win, Sets Stage for East Lake Cup Showdown
In a gripping East Lake Cup Match Play Semifinal at Atlanta Athletic Club, FSU's sophomore Luke Clanton clinched a pivotal win against Florida's Matthew Kress. With a decisive birdie putt on the 18th hole, Clanton's victory avenged FSU's previous defeat to the Gators at last year's NCAA Match Play Semifinal.
The Seminoles now gear up for a championship face-off against North Carolina, who edged out Georgia Tech in their semifinal. The title match is slated for Wednesday, with live action on the Golf Channel from 3-6 p.m.
Senior Gray Albright and freshman Tyler Weaver also delivered wins for FSU. Albright's match saw him dominate holes 14-17, while Weaver clinched his victory on the 17th hole.
Having recently won the Jackson Stephens Cup, the Seminoles are eyeing another match play title. Their duel with UNC is a reminiscent clash, echoing last year's Stephens Cup championship.
No. 18 FSU Women's Basketball Gears Up for Clayton State Showdown
Florida State Women's Basketball, ranked 18th, is set for their final exhibition against Clayton State on Wednesday, 6 p.m., at the Donald L. Tucker Center. Fans can enjoy free admission and general seating.
The Seminoles kick off their regular season this Monday against Charleston Southern at 6 p.m. A call to fans: WEAR GARNET! The first 500 attendees will snag a schedule magnet.
In their recent exhibition, FSU dominated Flagler with a 124-50 victory, spotlighting All-American Ta'Niya Latson's impressive 35-point performance.
Starting the 2023-24 season, FSU boasts its highest AP preseason rank since 2021-22. They also rank 22nd in the USA TODAY coaches' poll. The team's firepower includes top scorers: Ta'Niya Latson, Makayla Timpson, and Sara Bejedi.
The Seminoles face a challenging season with seven AP Top 25 opponents, including home games against Tennessee, North Carolina, Virginia Tech, and Notre Dame.
Fans can catch all 30 of FSU's games on TV or streaming, with a majority on the ESPN network.
Renardo Green Nominated for Jim Thorpe Award
Florida State's Renardo Green has been spotlighted as a semifinalist for the Jim Thorpe Award.
Green is a redshirt senior who stands out nationally, ranking 12th and leading the ACC with an average of 1.2 pass breakups per game.
His stellar performance against Clemson, which included a pivotal tackle in overtime, played a crucial role in ending Clemson's 25-game home winning streak in ACC matchups.
His season also featured a first career interception against No. 5 LSU. FSU's defense, with Green's contributions, is nationally recognized for its stringent pass restrictions.
The Jim Thorpe Award finalists will be unveiled on ESPN on November 28. Green aims to join the elite ranks of FSU legends like Deion Sanders and Terrell Buckley as a recipient of this prestigious award.

Gearing Up For The Steel City
🏟️ A Busy Week at Acrisure Stadium: The Seminoles are set to face the Pittsburgh Panthers this Saturday, but the turf at Acrisure Stadium is getting quite the workout. With the NFL's Pittsburgh Steelers hosting the Tennessee Titans on Thursday, and the recent game between the Steelers and the Jacksonville Jaguars, the field is seeing three games in just seven days.
👟 Tackling the Turf Challenge: FSU's head coach Mike Norvell, familiar with the field's conditions from his time with the Panthers, is leaving no stone unturned. "We understand it's a different surface, it gets a heavy wear on it," Norvell remarked. To adapt, the team is even trying out different cleats in practice!
🌟 Morlock's NFL Stadium Debut: Tight end Kyle Morlock is buzzing with excitement. The Division-II transfer from Shorter has never played in an NFL stadium, and he's eagerly awaiting the experience. "I am super excited... It's going to be a cool experience," he shared.
📝 Practice Insights:
Scouts from the Las Vegas Raiders, Kansas City Chiefs, and Carolina Panthers were spotted.
The intensity was palpable, with a brief scuffle during blocking drills. Norvell, however, appreciated the passion, saying, "I loved it."
Standout moments included Braden Fiske’s interception, Travis's deep ball to Darion Williamson, and explosive runs from Rodney Hill and Caziah Holmes.
📺 Game Day Details:
Matchup: No. 4 Florida State vs. Pittsburgh

Florida State's Playoff Position Sparks Debate
The Florida State Seminoles, despite their undefeated streak and dominant performances, found themselves placed 4th in the inaugural College Football Playoff rankings for the season. This position comes behind the likes of Ohio State, Georgia, and Michigan, sparking a wave of discontent among the Seminole fanbase.
Florida State, with an impressive 8-0 overall and 6-0 in the ACC, has been a force to reckon with this season. They lead the nation with 14 consecutive 30-point games, a feat only second in ACC history.
Offensively, the Seminoles are a powerhouse, leading the ACC and ranking fifth nationally with an average of 41.5 points per game. Their Red Zone conversion percentage stands at a commendable 93.9%, the best in the ACC and 11th nationally.
On the defensive front, FSU has been equally formidable. They top the charts nationally by allowing a mere three passing touchdowns.
Opponents find it challenging to breach their defense, completing only 49.4% of passes against the Seminoles. This makes FSU the only team in the country forcing more incompletions than completions.
Their prowess is further highlighted by holding opponents to a 101.59 passer rating, ranking them fifth in the nation.
The Seminoles' recent performances in October were noteworthy. They restricted all four opponents to under 150 passing yards and did not concede a single passing touchdown.
However, the College Football Playoff selection chairman, Bob Corrigan, provided some insight into FSU's ranking. He mentioned FSU's victories over LSU and Duke as part of a "front-loaded schedule." He stated, “...they've looked really good,” but the implication was that their marquee wins came earlier in the season.
Comparatively, Ohio State recently triumphed over Penn State, boasting one of the NCAA's best defenses. Michigan has been dominant all season, but have yet to pay a top 25 opponenty. And, of course, the reigning champions, Georgia Bulldogs, naturally secured a spot above FSU.
The Seminoles are no strangers to the College Football Playoff rankings. They've been featured in six consecutive CFP rankings since last season.
Their current position is their highest since 2014, a year when they consistently remained in the top-four and participated in the first College Football Playoff Semifinal.
Currently, FSU also holds the No. 4 spot in both the Associated Press and Coaches Polls.
They've maintained a position in the top-five for nine consecutive weeks. With a 14-game winning streak, they tie for the sixth-longest in school history and hold the third-longest active streak nationally.
Looking ahead, challenges await the Seminoles. They are set to face the Pittsburgh Panthers, followed by a clash with the formidable Miami Hurricanes.
If FSU continues their current trajectory, they could very well be in contention for the National Championship. As Coach Mike Norvell aptly put it, "We'll just control the controllables."
While rankings generate discussions and debates, the Seminoles' focus remains clear: to continue their winning streak and aim for the ultimate prize.
