Good morning, Seminole!

FSU raced to a 14-0 lead in Louisville, but one stop at the goal line and a 97-yard run flipped Friday night. The Cardinals won 44-20, piling up 397 rushing yards and leaving the Noles with plenty to sort out before No. 4 Miami.

🏈 The Louisville Turnaround 🏈

For a quarter, FSU looked ready to end its road skid. Ashton Daniels found Micahi Danzy for a one-handed, 25-yard touchdown, then ran in another score for a 14-0 lead. The night turned at the Louisville goal line.

  • The swing: FSU reached the Cardinals’ 2-yard line but lost yardage on a fourth-down receiver screen to Jasen Lopez. On Louisville’s next snap, Isaac Brown broke a 97-yard touchdown run. It was 14-14 by halftime. Tomahawk Nation recap

  • The avalanche: FSU punted on five straight possessions after that stop. Louisville opened the second half with a 71-yard kickoff return and scored the first three touchdowns after intermission. The Cardinals eventually led 35-14. The Osceola recap

  • The final: Louisville rushed for 397 yards, totaled 537 and scored six times on the ground in a 44-20 win. FSU finished with 362 yards and fell to 3-3, 1-2 in the ACC. Official FSU recap

Why It Matters: A 14-point head start turned into FSU’s 11th straight true road loss. The Noles now have a week to show this collapse was an exception before their trip to Miami. 🍢🍢

🎙️ The Questions for Norvell 🎙️

Mike Norvell took responsibility after the game, calling the performance extremely poor and saying FSU failed in its detail, discipline and response to adversity. Daniels also pointed to execution and mental errors. Postgame comments

  • The fourth-down debate: Norvell defended the decision to go for it near the goal line, while acknowledging the execution failed. In Tomahawk Nation’s roundtable, several writers accepted the decision but questioned the receiver screen that lost yardage. The very next play made the call the game’s hinge.

  • The bigger stakes: An On3 opinion column argues the loss will intensify scrutiny of Norvell’s tenure. That is an assessment, not an announced change. A separate On3 contract report estimates a buyout near $51 million if FSU dismissed him before the end of 2026, or about $45.6 million afterward.

  • What comes next: FSU visits No. 4 Miami on Saturday, October 17, at 7 p.m. on ESPN. There is no soft landing between the Louisville film and the rivalry game. FSU

Why It Matters: The postgame conversation now centers on preparation and week-to-week consistency. Miami offers an immediate chance to answer it on the field. 🍢🍢

📈 Bright Spots in the Box Score 📈

The result was rough, but three Seminoles still made plays worth carrying forward. FSU game notes

  • Daniels made more history. His first-quarter touchdown run was his 10th rushing score of the season, an FSU single-season record for a quarterback. He also threw for 209 yards and two touchdowns, both to Danzy, but was intercepted once. The rushing mark follows his five-touchdown game against Virginia. NoleGameday

  • Ousmane Kromah kept producing. He ran 19 times for 88 yards and added 43 yards on four catches. He has reached at least 80 rushing yards in each of FSU’s first six games, a feat no Nole had matched since Warrick Dunn in 1995. FSU

  • Danzy finished both scoring drives. The receiver caught four passes for 50 yards and two touchdowns, including that one-handed grab in the first quarter. FSU

Why It Matters: Daniels’ running and Kromah’s steady yardage give the offense building blocks. It still needs more sustained drives when momentum shifts. 🍢🍢

🧱 The Run-Defense Alarm 🧱

Louisville did more than break one long run. The Cardinals averaged 9.2 yards per carry and hit three touchdown runs of at least 40 yards: Brown from 97 and 68 yards, and another from 44. Brown finished with 235 yards on 17 carries. Official recap | Game breakdown

  • No reset after the first burst: FSU had allowed the 97-yarder before halftime, yet Brown still broke a 68-yard score in the fourth quarter. Defensive end Rylan Kennedy said the unit lost control after the long run and missed its gap fits. Postgame reaction

  • The pass rush cooled: FSU recorded 10 sacks against Virginia the week before. Kennedy had the Noles’ only sack Friday, while Louisville got Daniels four times. Tomahawk Nation

Why It Matters: Miami will have a clear film study assignment. FSU has to close running lanes, limit explosive plays and regain the disruption it showed against Virginia. 🍢🍢

🏀 Hoops Recruiting Watch 🏀

Luke Loucks’ fast, downhill approach is resonating with a 2028 point guard. Kenyon St. Louis, a four-star prospect at Winston-Salem Christian, told On3 that FSU’s pace, three-point emphasis and Loucks’ NBA background stand out.

  • The 6-foot-2 guard is No. 71 in the updated 2028 Rivals150. Playing for Canada at the U17 World Cup, he averaged 9.1 points and 4.1 assists while shooting 40.9% from three.

  • FSU is among his offers alongside Butler, Virginia Tech, UCF and West Virginia. St. Louis has not taken visits or set a decision timeline, so this is an early relationship, not a commitment.

Why It Matters: Loucks’ style is giving FSU a clear pitch to guards who like to attack and play fast. 🍢🍢

🏊 A Record in the Pool 🏊

FSU swimming and diving gave Tallahassee a brighter Friday. The Seminoles won 16 of 22 events in the opening session of the Seminole Fall Classic: nine wins for the women against Iowa State and seven for the No. 23 men against Purdue. FSU recap

  • Lucy Porter broke the school record in the women’s 100 individual medley at 55.87 seconds, then won the 400 IM in 4:16.82. Amelia Marek also dipped under the previous 100 IM mark, finishing second in 56.27.

  • Logan Robinson won three events for the men: the 200 free, 100 fly and 100 IM. The meet resumes Saturday at 10 a.m. with free admission.

Why It Matters: The Fall Classic opened with a school record and a full slate of wins. There is another chance to watch the Noles at home this morning. 🍢🍢

🗞️ Around the Noles 🗞️

🏃 Cross Country in the Rain

  • Both FSU teams placed third at Friday’s home XC Invite despite wet conditions. Josh Hicks led the men with fifth in the 8K (25:12.4); Ella Menke led the women with fourth in the 6K (22:07.1). Each Seminole squad scored 83 points. Next up: the pre-national meet October 16 in Terre Haute, Indiana. FSU results

🗓️ Sunday’s Changed Slate

  • As last listed in the FSU weather update, volleyball hosts Clemson at 1 p.m. Sunday and softball’s exhibition with Troy is set for 2 p.m. Sunday after moving from Saturday. The soccer match against No. 1 North Carolina remains postponed without a new date in that update. Check FSU’s latest notices before traveling.

Why It Matters: The storm reshaped the home schedule, but cross country competed Friday and two home events remain on Sunday’s calendar. 🍢🍢

And that’s a wrap!

Thanks for riding with us today, Seminole!

Friday hurt, and the next assignment is Miami. Take the weekend, catch the Noles still competing in Tallahassee and we’ll keep an eye on what changes before rivalry week.
