Florida State’s 22-0 undefeated streak against Duke came to a crashing end on Friday night, as the Seminoles fell 23-16 to the Blue Devils in Durham, N.C. The loss dropped FSU to 1-6 on the season (1-5 ACC) and handed Duke (6-1, 2-1 ACC) its first win against the Seminoles in program history.
Turnovers & Missed Opportunities: A Night to Forget
FSU’s performance was marred by four turnovers, including an unprecedented stretch of three turnovers on consecutive offensive plays in the second quarter—something no other FBS team has done this season. The turnovers directly led to 17 points for Duke and dug FSU into an insurmountable hole.
After FSU kicker Ryan Fitzgerald opened the scoring with a 23-yard field goal, disaster struck.
Brock Glenn’s 36-yard pick-six to Duke’s Chandler Rivers put the Blue Devils on top.
On the very next play, Glenn fumbled, leading to a Duke touchdown run by Star Thomas.
One more Glenn interception on the following drive set up another Duke field goal, putting FSU down 17-3 in the second quarter.
FSU brought in true freshman quarterback Luke Kromenhoek, who played the rest of the first half and part of the second. He went 3-of-7 for 19 yards in his collegiate debut, stabilizing the offense but unable to spark a comeback. Glenn returned later, finishing with 110 yards on 9-of-19 passing, two interceptions, and a fumble.
Singleton’s Spark & a Second-Half Rally
The second half started brightly for the Seminoles as redshirt freshman Samuel Singleton Jr. took the opening kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown, closing the gap to 17-13.
However, FSU’s offense continued to struggle, only managing field goals the rest of the game.
Ryan Fitzgerald made three field goals on the night, including a 53-yarder late in the first half and another 38-yarder in the fourth quarter, cutting the deficit to 20-16.
Despite these efforts, the Seminoles couldn’t muster a touchdown drive, stymied by dropped passes, six sacks, and Duke’s relentless pressure.
In the closing minutes, with the Seminoles driving for a potential game-tying score, Kam Davis fumbled after a six-yard run, and Duke recovered. The Blue Devils managed to run down the clock, and FSU’s final drive ended in a turnover on downs.
A Frustrating Finish
Despite outgaining Duke 291-180 in total offense and holding the Blue Devils to just 70 passing yards, FSU couldn’t overcome critical errors.
Poor third-down efficiency (2-of-14) and costly turnovers hindered the Seminoles' chances.
FSU’s defense forced seven Duke three-and-outs but couldn't capitalize on those stops due to offensive miscues.
Next up for Florida State is a road matchup against in-state rival No. 6 Miami at Hard Rock Stadium. The game kicks off at 7 p.m. next Saturday on ESPN.
🏈 The Fallout: What’s Gone Wrong for FSU? 🏈
You can blame coaching or bad portal analysis or recruiting issues or lazy players or bad morale or whatever. None of that can explain how bad this is. The only reasonable explanation is that Norvell met the devil down at the crossroads of Thomasville Rd and I-10 before last year… x.com/i/web/status/1…

The loss to Duke is another devastating blow in a season that’s quickly gone off the rails. The Seminoles finished the night outgaining Duke 291-180, but four turnovers, six sacks allowed, and multiple dropped passes crushed any hopes of a comeback.
Fans and analysts are left wondering how things fell apart so quickly for a team that entered the year with College Football Playoff aspirations. Mike Norvell’s program, which was ranked in the top 10 to start the season, now sits at 1-6, with a tough slate of games still ahead, including Miami, Notre Dame, and Florida.
Brock Glenn finished the night 9-of-19 for 110 yards, two interceptions, and a lost fumble.
Kam Davis led FSU’s rushing attack with 63 yards but fumbled in the game’s critical moments.
Despite the defensive struggles, the Seminoles held Duke to just 70 passing yards and forced the Blue Devils into seven three-and-outs.
Fan Reaction & Questions About the Future
The Seminole faithful are understandably frustrated, and the loss has only intensified questions surrounding the coaching staff and player development.
FSU’s once-promising season has turned into a disaster, with fans calling for a youth movement and pushing for Mike Norvell to make significant coaching changes.
Turnovers, penalties, and a lack of accountability on the field have all contributed to the downfall of a team that just last season went undefeated in the regular season.
As one fan summarized, "It’s not just the losing—it’s how the team loses. Mistakes you expect from freshmen are being made by veterans, and coaching decisions continue to be mind-boggling."
Looking Ahead: A Crucial Game Against Miami
Florida State’s season is on the brink. The team now heads into a crucial rivalry game against No. 6 Miami next Saturday at Hard Rock Stadium. With bowl eligibility hanging in the balance, the Seminoles will need a near-perfect performance to avoid a further slide. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m., and the game will be televised on ESPN.
And that’s a wrap!
As we navigate the highs and lows of Seminole sports, there's always something to celebrate and learn from.
Whether it's a hard-fought victory on the court or a lesson learned on the field, the Seminole spirit remains strong.
Stay tuned as we gear up for next week's rivalry clash against Miami and keep rooting for all our athletes pushing boundaries.
See you next time, Chief! 🍢
