🤿 Clark Earns First ACC Diver of the Week Honor 🤿

Florida State redshirt senior Kayleigh Clark was named the ACC Women’s Diver of the Week, marking the first such honor of her career and the program’s first since February 2024.

🔥 Dominant in Atlanta
Competing at the Dual Meet Tournament in Atlanta (Oct. 17–18), Clark won four of six events and finished runner-up twice.

  • vs. Army: Swept both boards — 1-meter (156.75) and 3-meter (159.85) — winning the latter by nearly 20 points.

  • vs. No. 8 NC State: 1st on 3-meter (171.30), 2nd on 1-meter (140.45).

  • vs. No. 20 Auburn: 1st on 3-meter (162.85), 2nd on 1-meter (144.75).

📈 Rising Tide
Clark becomes the third Seminole to earn ACC weekly honors this season, joining swimmers Michel Arkhangelsky and Maryn McDade. The Marietta, Ga., native also qualified for the 2024 NCAA Championships and was named to both the CSC Academic All-District and CSCAA Scholar All-America teams.

📅 Next Up
Clark and the Seminoles return home to host the All-Florida Invite on Oct. 24 (2 p.m. ET) at the Morcom Aquatics Center.

🏃‍♀️ Blade Named ACC Freshman of the Week (Again) 🏃‍♀️

Florida State cross country standout Rylee Blade was named the ACC Women’s Freshman of the Week for the second time this season, becoming the first Seminole to earn the honor twice in one year since Elizabeth Funderburk (2018).

🔥 Consistent Excellence
Blade capped her regular season with a 14th-place finish (19:53.0) at the Pre-National meet in Columbia, Missouri, helping FSU to a fifth-place team finish — the program’s best pre-nationals result since 2021.

💬 Coach’s Corner
“Rylee has established herself as one of the top runners in the ACC,” said head coach Matt Kane. “She’s shown incredible focus and maturity for a true freshman,” added women’s coach Cody Halsey.

🏀 Charlie Ward to Have Basketball Jersey Retired 🏀

Florida State legend Charlie Ward — the only athlete ever to win the Heisman Trophy and be selected in the first round of the NBA Draft — will see his No. 12 basketball jersey retired at the Donald L. Tucker Center before FSU’s exhibition game vs. Florida A&M on Oct. 26 at 4 p.m.

🔥 Double Immortality
Ward will become the first student-athlete in FSU history to have his number retired in both football (No. 17) and basketball (No. 12).

🏆 Storied Seminole
Ward led the Seminoles to three straight NCAA Tournaments, including the Elite Eight in 1993 and the Sweet 16 in 1992. He remains FSU’s all-time leader in steals (238) and holds the record for nine steals in a single game.

💬 From the Coaches
“I’m thrilled to honor Charlie Ward,” said head coach Luke Loucks. “He’s one of the greatest athletes college sports has ever known — and an even better person.”

🏈 Beyond the Court
Ward’s football legacy remains unmatched — a 1993 Heisman winner, Davey O’Brien and Walter Camp Player of the Year, and later a 12-year NBA veteran with the Knicks, Spurs, and Rockets.

🎟️ Event Details
Fans can purchase tickets here, with free admission for students from both schools (FSU and FAMU). The first 1,000 fans will receive a Charlie Ward 1993 jersey rally towel, presented by Champions First Credit Union.

Why It Matters: Charlie Ward isn’t just an FSU legend — he’s a symbol of the university’s golden standard in athletics and character, now forever honored in both Doak and the Tucker Center rafters.

📊 FSU Offensive Metrics Slide After Stanford Loss 📊

Florida State’s offense — once a Top-5 unit nationally — slipped across nearly every efficiency category after its loss to Stanford. While still a Top 10–15 offense overall, the numbers show clear regression as injuries and inconsistency continue to take their toll.

🔥 Offensive Dip

  • Yards per play: ↓ from 7.33 (8th) ➜ 7.09 (10th)

  • Points per game: ↓ from 44.2 (5th) ➜ 39.7 (10th)

  • Yards per rush: ↓ from 5.88 (10th) ➜ 5.51 (19th)

  • Yards per pass: ↓ from 9.9 (7th) ➜ 9.7 (4th)

  • Third down conversion: ↓ from 54.4% (7th) ➜ 52.0% (12th)

  • Red zone TD rate: ↓ from 75.9% (17th) ➜ 69.7% (35th)

  • Drive scoring rate: ↓ from 58.6% ➜ 53.7% (12th)

💣 Mistakes Adding Up

  • Penalties per game: ↑ from 5.0 ➜ 6.1 (59th)

  • Turnover margin: marginal improvement but still poor, –0.14 (81st)

🧱 Defense Holds Steady (Mostly)

  • Yards per play allowed: improved from 5.12 ➜ 5.01 (33rd)

  • Points per game allowed: improved from 23.0 ➜ 22.6 (52nd)

  • Run defense: 3.23 yards per rush (19th) — a strength.

  • Pass defense: still lagging at 7.3 yards per pass (83rd).

  • Red zone defense: modest progress but remains a concern at 61.9% TD rate (74th).

📉 The Big Picture
Florida State’s defense continues to quietly improve, but the offense — once its defining edge — is trending downward. Penalties, inefficiency in scoring zones, and limited explosiveness since key injuries have blunted what was once an elite attack.

Why It Matters: With Wake Forest up next, FSU’s offense must rediscover rhythm fast — or risk watching another promising statistical profile dissolve into mediocrity.

🧡 Loyal Commit Still Backing Norvell 🧡

Florida State’s longest-tenured 2026 commitment, Darryl “Tre” Bell III, remains firmly pledged to the Seminoles despite the program’s turbulent stretch — and even welcomed the news that Mike Norvell will stay on through season’s end.

🔥 Standing Firm
Bell, a Hialeah (FL) Barbara Goleman standout who first committed in October 2023, said he was “thankful” for the administration’s decision:

“I was kind of nervous because I wouldn’t really know what to do if he got fired… I’m just thankful they made the right decision.”

💬 Message from Norvell
Bell spoke with Norvell directly after Monday’s announcement:

“He was basically saying trust him, keep putting trust in him and he’s going to fight through this. The staff has his back.”

🔍 On What Needs Fixing
Bell believes the team’s struggles are correctable:

“It’s really the little stuff — turnovers, not finishing drives, missed tackles. It’s nothing big — just little tweaks.”

📊 Player Profile
The 6'0", 192-pound athlete ranks as the No. 39 safety nationally (247Sports) and has impressed this season with 354 receiving yards, 6 total TDs, and 26 tackles on defense.

Why It Matters: Amid a wave of uncertainty and potential recruiting fallout, Bell’s loyalty stands out — a reminder that some key prospects still believe in Norvell’s vision, even as the storm swirls.

🔥 Tony White Addresses Turmoil, Threats, and Staying the Course 🔥

Defensive coordinator Tony White has seen plenty in two decades of coaching — but nothing like this season in Tallahassee. From the emotional highs of an Alabama upset to four straight ACC losses and now death threats on social media, White and his defense have weathered every kind of storm.

💥 Under Fire, But Unshaken
White confirmed receiving threatening messages online after FSU’s latest loss but brushed them aside:

“That’s just part of social media … that’s the vitriol that’s out there. That’s what you sign up for in this profession.”

Despite the noise, White said his focus remains on helping the Seminoles “find ways” to win. He praised his players for how they’ve handled outside criticism and pointed out that all four losses have been by seven points or fewer — evidence, he believes, of a team still battling.

🧠 Controlling the Chaos
Tensions have been visible on the sidelines in recent weeks — from Norvell’s confrontation with defensive back Edwin Joseph at Stanford to earlier arguments with position coaches. White said those moments are emotional but not indicative of a locker room collapse:

“They’re still expected to bust their butt, be physical as all hell, and represent this place. That’s a lot of noise for those guys.”

White added that the defense’s physicality in Tuesday’s bye-week practice was “one of the best” all season, emphasizing that the team isn’t quitting.

🎯 Coaching Through Noise
White admitted that blocking out negativity takes deliberate effort:

“If I wanted to get caught up in it, I’d get caught up in it. It would take me to a black hole. But they don’t see the work. They don’t see the guys in the locker room. It’s not the same losing as last season. They’re fighting.”

He says the key now is to “double down on the process” and drown out distractions:

“That’s what those young men deserve. That’s what Florida State deserves. That’s what Coach Norvell deserves.”

🗣️ Offensive Silence
Meanwhile, offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn declined to weigh in on the broader turmoil, saying only:

“I’m focused on making us the best offense possible and trying to help us win.”

🔥 Inside the Storm: FSU Locker Room Fractures as Alford Stands by Norvell 🔥

Florida State’s administration doubled down on patience this week — but inside the locker room, confidence in Mike Norvell appears to have collapsed.

🏈 The Fallout
After a 20–13 loss at Stanford — the Seminoles’ fourth straight defeat and ninth consecutive ACC loss — AD Michael Alford issued a statement affirming Norvell would stay through the season, citing a “comprehensive assessment” to follow.
But behind the scenes, reports from multiple outlets paint a picture of a fractured team and a frustrated donor base:

“A lot of the boosters think they have the money to [fire Norvell],” said CBS Sports’ Chris Hummer. “There are people on that roster openly questioning Mike Norvell.”

💬 Silence in the Room
A current player told Noles247 that Norvell has “lost the team,” describing the reaction to his announcement Monday morning — that he’d remain head coach — as complete silence.

“Nobody believes the stuff he says anymore; it’s repetitive.”

📉 Eroded Trust, Empty Energy
Insiders describe a program going through the motions. During the Stanford game, players were seen ignoring Norvell on the sideline, with no visible signs of energy or unity. One source said:

“It’s a football team that’s checked out on its head coach.”

Even staff members acknowledge the disconnect. The Seminoles are 1–11 in ACC play since 2024, and frustration is mounting both inside and outside the building.

💸 Money vs. Momentum
Norvell’s $50+ million buyout looms large, and firing him now versus after the season would reportedly save only about $8 million. The administration’s hesitance appears rooted in financial caution — but it’s costing them fan goodwill and recruiting stability.

“They’ve poured more and more money into it, and it’s not working,” said Noles247’s Brendan Sonnone. “The trust has been broken. The damage has been done.”

🔥 Coaching Carousel Buzz
If FSU does move on, expect a familiar slate of targets. Names floated by national insiders include Lane Kiffin, Eli Drinkwitz, Alex Golesh, Jon Sumrall, and even Deion Sanders.

Why It Matters: The divide is no longer theoretical — it’s visible on the field, in the locker room, and among the boosters writing the checks. Florida State is trying to balance optics and finances, but the longer it waits, the harder it becomes to stop the bleeding.
