🏀 Charlie Ward Returns, Luke Loucks Makes FSU Head Coaching Debut in Emotional Exhibition 🏀

Two Seminole legends will share the court this weekend — one returning as a celebrated icon, the other stepping into the spotlight for the first time as head coach.

Florida State men’s basketball hosts Florida A&M on Sunday, October 26, at 4 p.m. ET in an exhibition matchup that doubles as a historic reunion between Luke Loucks and Charlie Ward — both former FSU standouts now leading their programs from the sidelines.

🔥 A Full-Circle Moment
For Loucks, now in his first season as FSU’s head coach, this game marks the culmination of a lifelong connection to the Garnet and Gold.

“My first sports memory is of Charlie Ward and the ’93 championship season,” Loucks said. “Still to this day it gives me chills.”

Ward, who took over as FAMU’s head coach earlier this year, will be honored pregame as the first student-athlete in FSU history to have his jersey recognized in both football and basketball — a tribute to one of college sports’ most remarkable careers.

🏆 Ward’s Legacy

  • Led FSU Basketball to three NCAA Tournaments, including the 1993 Elite Eight.

  • Remains the only athlete ever to win the Heisman Trophy and be selected in the first round of the NBA Draft.

  • Will have his No. 12 basketball jersey raised in the Tucker Center rafters alongside his No. 17 football jersey.

💬 Ward on the Moment

“It’s a great blessing for me to be part of this,” Ward said. “For both universities and the city to come together — it’s special.”

🤝 FSU Closing In on Key Local Recruit Daylen Green; LB Commit Izayia Williams Set for Official Visit 🤝

Florida State continues to make strong recruiting moves despite turbulence on the field — headlined by renewed momentum with local safety Daylen Green and the steady commitment of four-star linebacker Izayia Williams.

🔥 The Hometown Target
Gadsden County standout Daylen Green has long called FSU his dream school, and the Seminoles are pushing hard to make it a reality.

  • Recently decommitted from Arkansas following the firing of Sam Pittman.

  • Attended FSU’s home game vs. Pittsburgh and will return next Saturday for an official visit during the Wake Forest matchup.

  • Louisville was previously in contention, but all signs now point toward the Seminoles being the team to beat.

“He’s a big fan of what the Seminoles do with their safeties,” said recruiting analyst Michael Langston. “The chance to play close to home is a big draw.”

💪 Locking Down a Leader
Meanwhile, FSU four-star commit Izayia Williams has scheduled his official visit for Nov. 15 (Virginia Tech game) — reaffirming his firm commitment despite recent struggles.

“My recruitment is shut down,” Williams said. “This was the place I felt most comfortable. My parents are huge FSU fans — they even have tattoos.”

🐂 FSU Commit Karon Maycock Draws Offer from Texas, Plans Visit to Austin 🐂

Florida State linebacker commit Karon Maycock (Miami Central) has drawn late-cycle interest from several major programs — including an offer this week from Texas, which currently boasts Rivals’ No. 5-ranked recruiting class.

🔥 The Latest Development
Maycock confirmed he’ll take an official visit to Austin on Nov. 1, saying he wants to explore all his options before making a final decision.

“See how it goes when I visit and whatever happens happens,” Maycock said. “Just gotta make the best decision for me.”

🏈 Other Programs in the Mix
Beyond Texas, Nebraska and Georgia Tech have also entered the conversation, expressing continued interest in the standout linebacker as the early signing period approaches.

💪 FSU’s Position
Despite the new attention, Maycock remains publicly committed to Florida State. The Seminoles will work to hold his pledge firm as he evaluates other opportunities down the stretch.

And that’s a wrap!

From Charlie Ward’s timeless legacy to Link Jarrett’s growing dynasty, FSU’s DNA is clear — loyalty, legacy, and leadership. Whether it’s young commits staying home, legends returning to the court, or a freshman ace lighting up the diamond, this program keeps proving one thing: you can’t keep the Garnet down for long.

See you at the Tucker Center — and as always, keep chopping.
