Let's dive in. 🍢

Small ways to show Seminole pride every day.

Pride doesn't have to wait for Saturday. Desert Cactus has officially licensed FSU lanyards, luggage tags, and keychains that go to work, class, and the airport with you. A little garnet and gold goes a long way.

🎲 Underdogs Again 🎲

A 31-point win apparently doesn’t buy much respect in the desert. FSU (3-2) opened as a road underdog for Friday’s 7 p.m. kickoff at Louisville (ESPN).

  • Per NoleGameday, FanDuel opened FSU at +3.5 with an over/under of 58.5. Louisville is -170 on the moneyline, FSU +140.

  • On3 notes Polymarket traders give the Cardinals a 66% chance to win. FSU leads the all-time series 18-6, but the last four meetings are split 2-2.

  • The stat hanging over everything, per NoleGameday: it’s been more than 1,000 days since FSU won a game away from home, dating back to Nov. 25, 2023.

  • DE Darryll Desir is listed as questionable. Warchant reports an illness has kept him out the last two games and that he’s back at practice this week. He’s played in just two of FSU’s five games.

  • Listed out for FSU: RB Samuel Singleton Jr., WR Devin Carter, DBs Karson Hobbs, Jamari Howard, Zae Thomas and Jordan Crutchfield, and LBs Blake Nichelson, Izayia Williams, Daylen Green and Noah LaVallee.

  • For Louisville, QB Lincoln Kienholz is probable and leading rusher Keyjuan Brown is questionable. DB Antonio Watts is out. The report gets updated tonight, Thursday night and about two hours before kickoff.

  • Tony White, per The Osceola: “Their quarterback can throw it, he can run it… This is a really, really good offensive football team.” Kienholz just posted a 90.8 PFF grade, second-best among Power Four quarterbacks last week.

Why It Matters: FSU has been told all week it’s back. The betting market says prove it on the road first. Friday is the chance. 🍢

🧱 Five Down 🧱

So how did a defense that struggled through September end up with 10 sacks against Virginia? 247Sports’ John Evans went to the film, and the answer starts up front.

  • White leaned on more five-man fronts to choke off Virginia’s inside zone runs, pulling a defender out of coverage and trusting the secondary to play man. “You put five down, and it limits you in coverage,” White said. He credited DL coach Terrance Knighton and edges coach Nick Williams for spotting the opening.

  • It worked. Virginia averaged 5.5 yards per carry on inside zone through five games. Saturday, its 11 inside zone runs went for 27 yards.

  • Kevin “Juju” Wynn, the only true defensive tackle on the roster at 317 pounds, played a career-high 28 snaps and got his first career sack. White: “Juju is going to be one of the better D-linemen to have played here in the conference… We know what we’re doing. We’ve got to protect that guy. He’s balling.”

  • Deamontae Diggs slid inside for 18 of his 37 snaps, led the line with four pressures and finished the day with sack No. 10 on a bull rush.

  • Per Tomahawk Nation, the 10 sacks tied for the most by any team in an ACC game in records dating back to 2005, and Virginia was held scoreless on its final 11 drives. Rylan Kennedy had two sacks and Chris Jones added 1.5.

  • White: “You talk about playing as all 11 as one, communication, everybody calm, everybody just executing, and that’s what they did.”

  • He also told The Osceola it could have easily gone the other way after Virginia’s early touchdown: “It very well could have gone like the ‘Oh, no, here we go again’ type deal.” Instead, per Warchant, the Cavaliers managed just 61 yards the rest of the way against FSU’s starters.

Why It Matters: Louisville is no Virginia through the air, so FSU can’t lean on that five-man look all night. White knows it: “Everything you do has a consequence.” 🍢

Mark the calendars. Link Jarrett’s fifth FSU team finally has a schedule, and it’s loaded.

📅 The Headlines

  • Opening Day: Friday, Feb. 19, vs. USC Upstate to start a three-game series at Howser.

  • Home cooking: 35 of 55 regular-season games are at Dick Howser Stadium.

  • Gator Week(s): FSU and Florida meet three times: March 16 in Jacksonville, March 30 in Tallahassee and April 27 in Gainesville.

  • No Miami series: Instead, the rivals play a midweek non-conference game on April 6 in Tampa at George M. Steinbrenner Field, spring home of the New York Yankees.

🏟️ The ACC Grind

  • Conference play opens at North Carolina (March 18-20). FSU also travels to Duke, Boston College, Pitt and NC State.

  • Home ACC series: Cal, Virginia Tech, defending ACC champion Georgia Tech (April 22-24), Louisville and Stanford. It’s the first time FSU hosts Cal and Stanford as conference foes.

  • Per FSU, the Noles play 22 games against teams that made the 2026 NCAA Tournament.

  • Per 247Sports, FSU plays Auburn in Pensacola this Saturday, the first of five fall exhibitions.

  • Pitching coach Micah Posey has 20 arms on staff, including 10 newcomers (13 righties, seven lefties). The headliner is UConn transfer Cayden Suchy, the 2026 Big East Pitcher of the Year.

Why It Matters: Three games against the Gators, a Tampa date with Miami and a home series against the defending ACC champs. February can’t get here fast enough. 🍢

Cheap Cups Cloud Up. These Stay Crystal Clear After 800 Washes.

If you have ever pulled last season's tumblers out of the cabinet and found them foggy and scratched, you know the problem. Ordinary plastic crazes and clouds. Rowdy Crowd is made from US Tritan, the same material behind high-end reusable bottles, and it holds to a different standard.

Crystal clear after 800-plus dishwasher runs. Unbreakable when it hits the deck. Elegant enough to pour a real wine into, tough enough to live in the truck all season. That is the difference between a cup you replace every year and a life-proof set you actually keep.

📖 Rewriting the Record Book 📖

The deeper you dig into Saturday’s box score, the more history you find.

  • His five rushing TDs broke FSU’s single-game record of four, shared by Dalvin Cook (who did it twice in 2016), Greg Allen, Antone Smith and Cam Akers. The old QB record was Kelly Lowrey’s three against LSU in 1983.

  • Per FSU, his 30 points tied the school single-game record, the 81-yarder was the second-longest QB run in program history, and his nine rushing TDs already match FSU’s single-season record for a quarterback.

  • PFF gave him a 90.0 grade, fourth among Power Four quarterbacks for the week. He was also named one of the Davey O’Brien Foundation’s national Quarterbacks of the Week.

  • Daniels, per NoleGameday: “Coming into it, I didn’t really think I was going to be running the ball like that. But it ended up happening.”

  • Sophomore RB Ousmane Kromah leads all of FBS with 41 forced missed tackles, per ESPN’s David Hale, including 15 on just 17 carries against Virginia.

  • OC Tim Harris Jr.: “You want your playmakers to be playmakers all the time. [Ousmane], this season, he’s been that for us every week.”

Why It Matters: A quarterback who can run and a back who can’t be tackled. That’s a tough combination for a Louisville defense that ranks near the bottom of the country. 🍢

🎯 Recruiting Pulse 🎯

The Virginia win is already paying off on the trail.

  • Top247 2028 edge Antonio Thomas Jr. of Tampa Carrollwood Day was on campus for the Virginia game and told 247Sports’ Zach Blostein he felt like “definitely a priority at Florida State.”

  • He grew up watching the Noles with his dad, a Jameis Winston fan during the 2013 title run. “Watched Jalen Ramsey, watched Brian Burns, Jared Verse, watched them all. I was like, ‘I’m gonna be the next one of them.’”

  • He may be back for Miami on Oct. 17, and he has thoughts: “If Miami don’t come to play, FSU can shock the world.” Georgia, Kentucky, Florida, LSU, Texas A&M, Texas and Miami are also in the mix, and he’s weighing a reclassification to 2027.

  • 2028 edge commit Meshi Dobson (Fort Lauderdale Cypress Bay) told 247Sports’ Kolby Crawford he’ll visit Nov. 21 for the NC State game, his first trip back since committing July 22.

  • He reclassified to 2027 when he committed, then moved back to 2028 last week. Edges coach Nick Williams has been his main link: “He’s not just a coach to me, he’s a very good, excellent role model to me.”

  • Mario Cristobal, whose No. 4 Hurricanes are 5-0, per NoleGameday: “They completely dominated their opponent, and did it in every way possible. Ten sacks… just very, very impressive.”

Why It Matters: Nick Williams’ pass rush is quickly becoming FSU’s best recruiting pitch for edge rushers. 🍢

Basketball season is officially in sight. FSU takes the stage today at ACC Tipoff in Charlotte, with a live press conference at 11 a.m. on ACCNX.

  • Luke Loucks enters year two after an 18-15 debut, and his 10 ACC wins set a program record for a first-year coach. The Noles won 10 of their last 12.

  • He’s joined by Missouri transfer Anthony Robinson II, a Tallahassee native and 2025 SEC All-Defensive pick, and Colorado transfer Sebastian Rancik, who averaged 12.3 points and 5.6 rebounds last season.

  • The opener is Nov. 2 vs. Florida A&M in Tampa.

  • ACC commissioner Jim Phillips said Tuesday the league’s distribution to members next year “will border $1 billion for the first time.”

  • On the Protect College Sports Act, which passed the Senate 77-23, Phillips said 14 ACC schools “feel really good about it” and four “have an issue with a portion of it.” Those four sent Congress the letter on realignment rules we covered last week. Asked whether changes could spark an exodus, Phillips said: “I don’t want to get into hypotheticals.”

Why It Matters: Loucks’ second year starts with real expectations, while the ACC’s future is still being decided in Washington. 🍢

🗞️ Around the Noles 🗞️

  • FSU (8-6, 3-1 ACC) has won back-to-back matches for the first time this season after sweeping NC State and Wake Forest. Senior Kyleene Filimaua recently passed 1,000 career digs, becoming the 14th Seminole to do it.

  • FSU hosts Jacksonville tonight at 6 p.m. at Tully Gym (ACCNX). The Noles are 38-0 all-time against the Dolphins.

  • Men’s golf finished fourth at +16 at the Hamptons Intercollegiate. Tyler Weaver placed eighth for his 13th career top-10, and freshman Nils-Levi Bock tied for ninth, his first. Up next: the Fallen Oak Invitational, Oct. 17-19.

  • Former Nole Mirabel Ting swept Epson Tour Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year after two wins and 12 top-10s. She finished No. 1 in the Race for the Card, earning her 2027 LPGA Tour card.

Why It Matters: Volleyball has a chance to make it three straight tonight. And Ting, an ANNIKA Award winner at FSU, is headed for golf’s biggest stage. 🍢

And that’s a wrap!

Thanks for riding with us today, Seminole!

Two days until kickoff in Louisville. We’ll be watching tonight’s availability report and keeping you posted. See you tomorrow.
