What's your pick for FSU at Louisville tonight?
🏹 Welcome to The Chief Brief! 🏹
Good morning, Seminole!
It’s game day in Louisville. FSU has a shot to end a 10-game road skid against a Cardinals team whose three losses have all come by three points. The latest availability report is in, the picks are tilting back toward the Noles, and Hurricane Isaias has reshaped the home schedule.
Here’s what’s on deck.
📋 In Today's Chief Brief:
🎬 The Game-Night Blueprint 🎬 - Where Daniels and the pass rush can make their mark
🗳️ The Picks Swing Back 🗳️ - Two staffs lean FSU after yesterday’s Louisville sweep
🏥 The Last Availability Check 🏥 - Desir, Kienholz and Keyjuan Brown
🐦 Behind Enemy Lines 🐦 - Big plays, costly mistakes and a familiar receiver
🌧️ Storm Shuffle 🌧️ - What’s postponed, canceled and still on
🏀 Hoops Watch 🏀 - Steen’s renewed bid and two honored assistants
🗞️ Around the Noles 🗞️ - Recruiting, cross country and beach volleyball
Let's dive in. 🍢
Make any room a Seminole room.
Make any space feel like Tallahassee with officially licensed FSU posters, acrylic magnets, and flags from Desert Cactus. Start with a wall, a fridge, or that one empty corner you've been meaning to fix.
FSU (3-2) visits Louisville (2-3) tonight at 7 p.m. on ESPN. Both offenses can move, and both defenses have given up chunks. A few matchups could settle it.
Find space for Daniels. Louisville allows 267 passing yards per game, 130th nationally, and 156 rushing yards. Ashton Daniels just ran for a school-record five scores against Virginia. ChopChat’s bold call: two more rushing TDs and a 100-yard receiving night from Duce Robinson.
Protect the ball. The Cardinals have allowed 15 plays of at least 30 yards, per NoleGameday’s Louisville Q&A. FSU has chances downfield if Daniels gets time and avoids the giveaway that can erase a long drive.
Win up front. The Noles recorded 10 sacks against Virginia. Louisville has surrendered 10 in five games, and its offensive line has been moved around by injuries. Pressure can keep Lincoln Kienholz from feeding a receiving group built for explosive plays.
Why It Matters: The Virginia win showed FSU’s ceiling. Doing the same work on a short week, away from Doak, would show it can travel. 🍢🍢
🗳️ The Picks Swing Back 🗳️
Yesterday, all six Noles247 writers picked Louisville. The next wave of predictions is much closer to garnet and gold.
NoleGameday’s staff picks FSU 3-2. Dustin Lewis sees a 38-34 shootout; Austin Veazey takes Louisville 27-26. Their shared question: was last week’s defensive jump lasting?
Tomahawk Nation’s staff splits 6-5 for FSU. Several writers like Daniels against Louisville’s defense, while the skeptics point to the road streak and Kienholz’s weapons.
All three Cardinal losses have come by a field goal, and FSU has not won away from home since November 2023. ChopChat argues that even a win tonight would be only one step in Norvell’s larger case for consistency.
Why It Matters: The previews see a winnable game, but few see an easy one. FSU’s first road win in nearly three years would change the conversation before Miami next week. 🍢🍢
Thursday’s report brought one welcome upgrade for Tony White’s defense.
FSU defensive lineman Darryll Desir is probable after missing the Virginia game. Defensive back Ja’Bril Rawls, who was shaken up Saturday, is not listed.
Louisville quarterback Lincoln Kienholz remains probable. Running back Keyjuan Brown, who leads the Cards with 367 rushing yards, is questionable. So is offensive lineman Cason Henry.
FSU still lists running back Samuel Singleton Jr. and receiver Devin Carter among its outs. The final report is due close to kickoff, so the probable and questionable labels can still move.
Why It Matters: Desir would add another option to a pass rush that needs to get home. Brown’s status could change how much Louisville asks of Kienholz on the ground. 🍢🍢
From the Grill to the Lot, One Set Does It All.
Tailgates, cookouts, the pool, the boat, wherever your fall Saturdays land, Rowdy Crowd has a cup for it. The clip runs the whole tour: a cold one poured at the grill, a red at the picnic table, mimosas before kickoff, and a full lineup at the tailgate.
Here is why it fits our readers. The US Tritan drinkware looks like real glass but does not crack, cloud, or shatter, so you can hand a schooner to the buddy who always drops things and not think twice. No red Solo cups, no broken glass in the grass, no picking shards out of the cooler.
Build your game-day set before the next home game.
NoleGameday asked Louisville reporter Matt McGavic what has gone wrong for a team with enough offense to scare anyone. His answer starts with mistakes.
The Cardinals committed 11 penalties against Wake Forest, then fumbled five times against NC State and lost three of them. Every Louisville loss this season has been by three points.
McGavic says defensive tackles have struggled against runs up the middle, while the secondary has let too many deep shots through. Louisville ranks 131st nationally in plays of 30 yards or more allowed.
Former Nole Lawayne McCoy is now one of Kienholz’s deep threats alongside Tre Richardson. On defense, edge rusher Clev Lubin and safety Kaleb Beasley are the names to circle.
Why It Matters: Louisville’s margin for error has been tiny. If FSU can turn one penalty, turnover or missed tackle into points, it may be enough to break the road skid. 🍢🍢
🌧️ Storm Shuffle 🌧️
Hurricane Isaias is expected along the Gulf Coast Friday evening, and FSU’s home calendar has changed. Football at Louisville remains on for 7 p.m. on ESPN.
No. 22 soccer vs. No. 1 North Carolina and volleyball vs. Georgia Tech are postponed. Neither has a new date yet. Soccer’s Paint it Pink match and jersey auction will also move.
Saturday’s baseball exhibition against Auburn and men’s basketball exhibition against Mississippi State in Pensacola are canceled. Saturday’s lacrosse fall games will be closed to the public.
Softball’s exhibition against Troy has shifted from Saturday to Sunday at 2 p.m. The FSU XC Invite is still set for Friday morning, and the Seminole Fall Classic in swimming now starts at 11 a.m. Friday.
Why It Matters: Check the FSU athletics update before heading to a venue. The department says its list will keep changing as the storm approaches. 🍢🍢

🏀 Hoops Watch 🏀
A pair of Thursday updates for Luke Loucks’ program, with the season getting closer.
Center Alex Steen has filed an amended complaint and a renewed request for a temporary injunction after his first emergency request was denied in September, according to Noles247.
His filing points to the 2026-27 NCAA manual and a recent temporary injunction for Florida guard Denzel Aberdeen. It is a pending case; Steen has not received a new ruling in the report.
Associate head coach Jim Moran and assistant coach/GM Michael Fly were named to Silver Waves Media’s list of the 100 most impactful high-major assistants for a second straight year.
FSU credits the pair with helping last season’s team go 18-15, including 10 wins in its final 12 games and a school-record five straight ACC road victories.
Why It Matters: The staff enters year two with national recognition, while the frontcourt picture still hinges on Steen’s case. 🍢🍢
🗞️ Around the Noles 🗞️
🎯 Recruiting Watch
Noles247 reports a rising Florida defensive back has an FSU offer and plans a visit, while a Top247 Ole Miss commit is also set to visit. Those headlines are worth watching as the football schedule turns toward Miami.
The FSU XC Invite remains on for Friday at Apalachee Regional Park: men’s 8K at 7:40 a.m., women’s 6K around 8:20 a.m. Admission and parking are free. The meet includes 23 teams.
FSU opens the Sand Court Experts West Coast Championship in Manhattan Beach on Friday. The field includes pairs from eight teams that finished in last season’s AVCA Top 10. The Fort Walton Beach event FSU had planned to attend was canceled because of Isaias.
🏊 Friday and Sunday Reminders
Swimming and diving hosts its adjusted Fall Classic at 11 a.m. Friday. Volleyball is next scheduled to host Clemson at 1 p.m. Sunday; softball’s Troy exhibition follows at 2 p.m.
Why It Matters: There’s still plenty of Seminole action around the storm. Check for fresh updates before traveling. 🍢🍢
And that’s a wrap!
Thanks for riding with us today, Seminole!
The football game is on, even as the home schedule shifts around the storm. Stay safe along the Gulf Coast, and enjoy Friday night in Louisville. We’ll catch you after the final whistle.
Go Noles,
