Florida State returned to the practice field with strong energy ahead of their matchup against SMU. Coach Mike Norvell praised the team’s effort, particularly highlighting DJ Uiagalelei’s best day in recent weeks.
The senior QB showcased improved rhythm and timing, delivering precise passes into tight windows and hitting receivers in stride during drills.
Freshman tight ends Landen Thomas and Amaree Williams also impressed with solid hands and crisp routes, drawing attention from the coaching staff.
On the defensive side, DE Marvin Jones Jr. stood out with multiple disruptive plays, including a sack and pressure, building on his recent game performance.
Corners Quindarrius Jones and Charles Lester also had a productive day, each making key plays in coverage, with Jones securing an interception and a crucial pass breakup.
A notable position shift occurred with Earl Little Jr. moving to safety.
Norvell mentioned that this change aims to maximize Little's ability to impact the game from deeper in the secondary, especially with the emergence of Edwin Joseph and Ja’Bril Rawls in the corner rotation.
The defense continued to show its progress with young linebackers Juice Cryer and DeMarco Ward contributing to solid stops during team drills.

The ACC had an eventful Week 4 with several standout performances and disappointing losses. Miami remains the conference leader following a dominant 50-15 victory over USF.
Clemson rebounded after its Week 1 loss to Georgia, climbing to No. 2 after dismantling NC State. Florida State secured its first win of the season with a narrow 14-9 victory over Cal, but the Seminoles remain in the bottom half of the rankings at No. 16.
DJ Uiagalelei’s performance remains a concern, as he threw for a season-low 177 yards with a touchdown and an interception.
FSU’s road ahead is daunting, with matchups against Clemson, Miami, and Duke looming.
Here’s how the rest of the rankings shape up entering Week 5:
Miami Hurricanes (4-0)
Clemson Tigers (2-1)
Louisville Cardinals (3-0)
Boston College Eagles (3-1)
Pittsburgh Panthers (4-0)
Syracuse Orange (2-1)
Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (3-2)
California Golden Bears (3-1)
SMU Mustangs (3-1)
Duke Blue Devils (4-0)
Stanford Cardinal (2-1)
Virginia Cavaliers (3-1)
NC State Wolfpack (2-2)
North Carolina Tar Heels (3-1)
Virginia Tech Hokies (2-2)
Florida State Seminoles (1-3)

FSU Outlook: Florida State snapped its losing streak but faces tough competition ahead. Despite the win, the offense struggled, and Uiagalelei’s inconsistency remains a major concern.
FSU has an uphill battle to secure bowl eligibility, with matchups against top ACC teams like Clemson, Miami, and Duke in the coming weeks.
