A win is a win, and FSU is back to .500 after a 34-7 handling of Norvell's alma mater. It just wasn't the kind of win anyone will frame. The Noles were up 24-0 before most people found their seats, then spent the rest of the afternoon committing penalties and watching Central Arkansas hold the ball for 39 minutes. Today we've got the highlights, the asterisks, a defense that actually looked better, and the month that could decide everything.

34-7. Time to Pour One Out (the Good Kind).
Two touchdown passes from Ashton Daniels, two rushing scores from Ousmane Kromah, and a statement win to snap a rough stretch. Central Arkansas never had an answer, and your glass shouldn't be empty either.

Florida State (2-2, 0-1 ACC) scored touchdowns on four of its first five possessions and cruised past the Bears in front of a Parents Weekend crowd.
⚡ The Fast Start
It took one throw. After a Micahi Danzy lateral on the opening kickoff set FSU up near midfield, Ashton Daniels hit Duce Robinson for a 29-yard touchdown on his first pass of the day. Ousmane Kromah added scoring runs of 6 and 1 yards, and FSU led 24-0 midway through the second quarter.
Daniels finished 12-of-18 for 224 yards, two TDs and an interception, plus 34 rushing yards. Kromah ran for 86 yards and two scores on 11 carries, becoming the fifth Seminole since 1995 with a rushing TD in each of the team's first four games.
🌟 Jayvan Boggs' Big Day
The sophomore posted career highs with six catches for 122 yards and a 34-yard touchdown. He's now the third different Nole to lead the team in receiving this season, and freshman Jasen Lopez finally got his first career catch (9 yards) along with 39 punt return yards.
A few milestones: FSU has scored in 15 straight quarters to open the season, its longest streak since 1999. The Noles are now 17-for-17 in the red zone, and Gabe Panikowski is a perfect 20-for-20 on field goals in his FBS career. Norvell also became the third FSU coach to beat his alma mater, joining Bobby Bowden and Jimbo Fisher.
Why It Matters: The first 25 minutes looked exactly like the team that led Alabama by 15. That version of FSU can beat anyone left on the schedule, and the challenge is keeping it around for 60 minutes. 🍢
😤 The Asterisks 😤
After 24-0, the next 35 minutes were a slog, and neither Norvell nor the fanbase was in the mood to pretend otherwise.
🚩 Flags, Flags, Flags
FSU was called for 10 penalties for 115 yards, including roughing the punter, a facemask and pass interference, and several of them extended Central Arkansas drives. The Bears' only touchdown came on a 13-play, 75-yard march helped along by FSU flags. “Any time you have 10 penalties, that pisses me off,” Norvell said. “It's technique, it's fundamental.”
UCA won time of possession 39:12 to 20:48, and FSU managed just 10 points after halftime.
🧑🤝🧑 Where Were the Backups?
Malachi Marshall still hasn't played. Kevin Sperry got the only backup series, going 2-for-2 for 14 yards. “Kevin only got one possession,” Norvell said. “You would have liked to have gotten your backup offensive guys more.” ChopChat gave Daniels a B- and ripped the offensive line's “inconsistent blocking all game.”
Plenty of fans headed for the exits in the third quarter. The most-shared line on NoleGameday's reaction roundup: “Even watching this team win is the equivalent of a root canal.”
Why It Matters: Penalties and short possessions don't cost you against an FCS team. Against Virginia, they will. And the depth evaluation this week was built around never really happened. 🍢
Lost in the grumbling: after two straight weeks of 565-plus yards allowed, FSU's defense actually played well.
📉 The Numbers Finally Moved
Central Arkansas managed just 248 yards and 3.4 yards per play, and QB Donovyn Omolo went 15-of-30 for 138 yards. FSU piled up 10 tackles for loss, its most since 12 against Cal in 2024.
Rylan Kennedy had 1.5 TFLs, including a sack, and Mandrell Desir got his first sack of the season. Linebackers Omar Graham Jr. (six tackles, 1.5 TFLs) and Mikai Gbayor (six tackles, two TFLs) both tied career highs, and CJ Richard Jr. led the team in tackles for a second straight week with eight.
🆕 New Faces
Kevin Wynn, our “seasoning don't have no calories” guy, made his first career start. So did Nehemiah Chandler for the first time as a Seminole. Four players debuted: DL Whitley Cadeau, LB Noah LaVallee, edge Jaemin Pinckney and RB Amari Thomas. Antonio Cromartie Jr. broke up his first career pass.
On the injury front, Darryll Desir was in street clothes, and Chris Jones came off with an apparent leg injury in the third quarter but returned a drive later.
Why It Matters: It was an FCS opponent, so hold the parade. But a defense that lives in the backfield and gets Wynn more snaps is exactly the recipe FSU needs before Virginia's experienced offense comes to town. 🍢
Recapping the Win Deserves a Real Glass.
Sunday morning after a 34-7 win hits different. Replay Jayvan Boggs' touchdown catch as many times as you want, the Bears never found an answer yesterday, and there's no reason your recap should be sipped out of a chipped mug.

🗓️ The Gauntlet
Next up: Virginia, Louisville, Miami and Clemson, with a combined 12-4 record. FSU lost at Virginia last year, is 0-2 against Miami under Norvell, and has beaten Clemson only once on his watch. Norvell is 40-36 overall and 9-20 since the 2023 ACC title.
The column's sharpest point: FSU's leadership has never publicly defined what success looks like this fall, so nobody knows what record saves the job. Norvell's own framing is to treat every game “as your last because the growth in that play is a necessity.”
🔵 Virginia Is Coming in Hot
The Cavaliers bounced back from their West Virginia loss by holding Delaware to 160 total yards, and receiver Rico Flores Jr. caught nine of 10 targets. Coach Tony Elliott didn't hide how he sees next week: “To win this league, you've got to go through Tallahassee. Bottom line.”
Norvell called UVA “one of the most experienced teams in college football.” Kickoff is Saturday at 3:30 p.m. on ESPN2 or ACC Network.
Why It Matters: Everything in September was prologue. Four games in 34 days will tell us whether this staff is building something or running out of time. 🍢

🔄 Dobson Heads Back to 2028
Three-star edge Meshi Dobson, who had reclassified up to 2027 this summer, announced he's staying in the 2028 class. “After a good conversation with my team/village I will be staying in the 2028 class,” he posted. He remains committed to FSU.
The ripple effect is real. Per NoleGameday, the 2027 class dropped from No. 33 to No. 41 nationally with 16 commits, only four of them defensive linemen, and it's on track to be FSU's lowest-ranked class of the modern era.
✅ Who Actually Showed Up Saturday
Per Noles247's live tracker, both 2027 commits made it in: edge Anthony Cavallaro, on his second visit of the season, and LB Olrick Johnson III, back for the first time since his June official. Viral Decatur (Ga.) edge Nasir Braxton (the 1490 SAT guy) got his first look at FSU, and California QB Chase Curren and Alabama edge DeMarcus Dale-Brown were both confirmed in the building.
Three 2029 edge rushers also checked in: Jamarion Dunwood, who booked the trip right after getting his FSU offer this week, plus TJ Franklin of Fort Walton Beach Choctawhatchee and Tarrell Milton. Edge was clearly the theme of the day.
Recruiting Reality: Dobson's still a Nole, just a year later, so this is more about optics than losing a player. But a class sitting in the 40s is exactly the kind of number that shapes an October job review. 🍢

🏐 Super Sunday for the Other Noles 🏐
If Saturday left you wanting more, three Seminole events fall within an hour of each other today.
No. 22 FSU (4-1-2) is 11-0-0 all-time against Louisville, but these Cardinals (8-1-1) just upset No. 6 Stanford. Watch forward Wrianna Hudson, whose .765 shot accuracy leads the nation.
Four days after that five-set comeback, FSU (6-5, 1-0 ACC) visits the Hurricanes. Kyleene Filimaua now leads the ACC with 200 points, and freshman Sofia Moss passed 100 career kills on Wednesday.
At the same time, Jameis Winston makes his start for the Giants against Tennessee and former teammate Jermaine Johnson II.
Why It Matters: Keep the remote handy. Between soccer's perfect Louisville streak, volleyball chasing a sweep of Miami, and a Heisman winner's shot at redemption, it's a good Sunday to be a Seminole. 🍢
