The Florida State women’s basketball team has scheduled a home-and-home series with Illinois starting in 2024. The Seminoles will travel to Urbana-Champaign for a matchup on November 7 at the State Farm Center, with Illinois visiting Tallahassee in 2025.
FSU holds a 2-0 record against Illinois, including a 78-66 victory in their last meeting in 2021. The Seminoles will bring back a strong roster for the 2024-25 season, retaining 75% of their scoring and 82% of their rebounds from last year.

Florida State’s football season took a dramatic downturn on Monday night as the Seminoles suffered a 28-13 defeat at the hands of Boston College in their home opener.
The loss, which follows a season-opening defeat to Georgia Tech, leaves FSU 0-2 overall and in the ACC, shattering preseason hopes of defending their conference title and making the College Football Playoff.
Despite being heavily favored, FSU struggled to find momentum on both sides of the ball.
Quarterback DJ Uiagalelei managed 272 passing yards and one touchdown but completed just 50% of his passes and threw a costly interception.
The offense was further hampered by a non-existent rushing attack, which netted only 21 yards. The defense, which had issues in the opener, was overpowered again, allowing 263 rushing yards to Boston College, with former Seminole Treshaun Ward contributing significantly.
The loss was FSU’s first to Boston College since 2017 and marks their first 0-2 start since that same year. The Seminoles' performance led to frustration among fans, with some even calling for a change at quarterback during the game.
With a bye week ahead, Coach Mike Norvell faces critical decisions, particularly regarding the quarterback position, as the team prepares for a challenging Week 4 matchup against Memphis.
Once seen as ACC title contenders, the Seminoles now face an uphill battle just to achieve bowl eligibility, and their absence from the upcoming AP Poll reflects the severity of their current struggles.
Up Next: The Seminoles will look to regroup during the bye week before hosting Memphis, a game that could be pivotal in turning their season around.

After FSU’s disappointing 28-13 loss to Boston College, head coach Mike Norvell addressed the media with a candid assessment of the team's struggles.
Norvell took full responsibility, stating, "I failed in preparing the team," and expressed his belief in the squad's potential despite the poor start.
He highlighted the need for better execution in all phases, particularly in the run game, where the Seminoles have struggled to create opportunities.
Norvell also stressed the importance of leadership, unity, and sticking together amid the inevitable criticism following back-to-back losses.
Norvell's message to the team was clear: they need to regroup, work harder, and focus on translating practice efforts into game-day performance.
He acknowledged the challenges of facing high expectations and the pressure that comes with representing a prestigious program like Florida State.
Despite the setbacks, Norvell remains confident that the Seminoles can bounce back and improve, starting with the upcoming bye week, which he sees as a crucial opportunity for the team to reassess and rebuild.
The coach also addressed specific areas of concern, including the lack of success in the rushing attack and the struggles in third-down situations on both sides of the ball.
Norvell recognized the need for the team to find a rhythm and perform at a higher level, particularly in critical moments.
As the team heads into the bye week, the focus will be on restoring confidence, correcting mistakes, and preparing for their next challenge against Memphis.
😓 FSU's Struggles Continue: A Team in Crisis 😓
Kyle Morlock had another egregious drop right after Maurice Smith committed his second false start penalty, and Mike Norvell needed to burn a timeout with the play clock winding down. This is not just on DJ. The entire offense is coming apart at the seams and melting down.

The Florida State Seminoles are in a state of crisis after a shocking 28-13 loss to Boston College, dropping them to 0-2 for the season.
What initially seemed like a fluke defeat in Ireland against Georgia Tech now appears to be a symptom of deeper issues within the program.
The team, once expected to defend its ACC title and make a run at the College Football Playoff, is struggling with a lack of leadership, identity, and execution on both sides of the ball.
Offensive Woes and Leadership Vacuum
If there’s anything I’d use to describe this entire team through 5.5 quarters, it’s tentative and noncommittal.

FSU’s offense has been ineffective, with DJ Uiagalelei failing to ignite the team.
The Seminoles managed just 21 rushing yards against Boston College, a stark contrast to their expectations. Uiagalelei, who completed 21 of 42 passes for 272 yards, one touchdown, and an interception, has been the target of fan frustration, with boos and chants for backup Brock Glenn echoing through Doak Campbell Stadium.
However, the issues run deeper than the quarterback. The offensive line, expected to be a strength, has been outmatched in consecutive games, and the running game has been nonexistent. Senior tight end Kyle Morlock struggled with drops, and the receivers failed to make critical plays, leaving the offense without a clear identity or reliable playmakers.
The team’s lack of leadership has also been apparent. Linebackers DJ Lundy and Cam Riley, along with receiver Kentron Poitier, expressed concerns about the trust and accountability within the squad. The Seminoles appear to be a team without direction, unable to generate positive momentum or sustain drives.
Defensive Failures and Special Teams Highlights
Defensively, FSU has been unable to stop the run, allowing 263 rushing yards to Boston College after being gashed by Georgia Tech in the opener.
The defense’s inability to make crucial stops at key moments has been a major factor in both losses. The lack of aggression and the tendency to give up long drives have put the team in a constant state of desperation.
However, the Seminoles have had some success on special teams. Ryan Fitzgerald has been consistent, hitting two field goals on Monday, while punter Alex Mastromanno has been a standout, showcasing his skills as one of the best punters in the nation.
Despite their strong performances, special teams alone cannot carry the team, and the broader issues on offense and defense are overshadowing these bright spots.
Norvell’s Reflection and the Road Ahead
We can't tackle. Our DL is ineffective. Our LBs can't cover. Our QB sucks. We can't run the ball. This is pathetic, guys... We're as positive as can be at PTS, but my goodness. I don't even know what to say right now. Literally speechless with this bs...

Head coach Mike Norvell took full responsibility for the team’s poor performance, acknowledging the need for better preparation and leadership. He expressed his belief in the team’s potential but admitted that the execution has been lacking.
Norvell’s decision to go for it on fourth-and-5 from FSU’s 47-yard line early in the second half, which led to a game-changing interception, was a panicked move that reflected the desperation within the program.
With a bye week ahead, FSU has an opportunity to regroup, but the road ahead is daunting. The team must find a way to establish a running game, shore up the defense, and develop a coherent offensive strategy if they hope to turn the season around.
The upcoming game against Memphis will be a critical test of whether the Seminoles can salvage their season or if they are headed for a complete collapse.
Conclusion
The Seminoles' season is already on the brink, and the questions surrounding their ability to compete at a high level are growing louder.
With no clear path forward, the upcoming games will be crucial in determining whether this team can recover or if it is destined for a disappointing and frustrating season.
The post-Jordan Travis era has begun with a stumble, and the challenges ahead will test the resolve of both the players and the coaching staff.
And that’s a wrap!
And that’s a wrap for today’s edition of The Chief Brief!
As we head into the bye week, let's keep the Seminole spirit high and look forward to the challenges ahead.
Stay strong, stay focused, and as always, Go Noles!
